Neighbours using wheelie bin

I suggest putting your bin on a bungee cord so that when the bin men empty it, it immediately returns to your house, and preferably a secure bin lockup.

Put a water pistol under the bin with a piece of string tied to the lid and to the trigger. Also make it look like a realistic fire arm for ultra lols.

Oh, and to the teretorial thing, I thought about defending myself, but you know what? The hell with you. This is my gods damned house, I work ****ING hard to pay for it, everything in it, and the utilities that go with it (Which are a small fortune by the way) so I am fully ****ing entitled to be ****ed off when people **** with it. Don't like it? Don't understand it? Tough! My ****ing house, so **** off if you've nothing useful to say.

Whose house is it ?

Indeed - I despair at people sometimes. #firstworldproblems springs to mind!

The previous post that said "get over the first world problems meme" was right.
We live in the First world, inconsiderate neighbours are actually a genuine problem.

I take it in your world, you're only allowed to complain if you've got AIDS, live 7 miles from nearest source of water, have no food and live in a warzone?

If the person knocks on your door and asks if he could use your bin I would see this as okay. Before we bought our house we used to rent a flat and this was a major problem as we had no garden to put our bins in. It was highly amusing in a way because as I worked nights I always used to catch the cheeky buggers trying to dump their stuff in our bins. This was followed by a "oi no" much to their red faced surprise.

I take it you didn't read my second post? The one where I mentioned that the result of this is that I then end up with an extra bag of rubbish that I then have to store for up to two weeks?

Sorry dude, I missed your second post, yeah that would annoy me to, maybe try talking to them about it...if you know which neighbour it is, then you can dump your rubbish on their lawn lol

OP, I've got a similar situation at the moment and yes, it is annoying. And it's not when the bins are already out on the street either, they're doing it while the bin is on our property and we're at work.

What to do... I'm torn between the lock and the water pistol :D

As above, if it means you cant put your rubbish in the bin then be miffed, if its causing no hassle other than the fact you feel it a bit cheeky I would let it slide.

It can be very annoying having someone else using your bin. I had the same problem. I frequently wasn't able to put my own rubbish out as someone else had filled the bin completely (and everyone elses) which they never put out for collection. Great having to to put out a full to the brim bin when it isn't even your rubbish. Other times they had used cheap bags so that they split and the bin got grotty and smelly. They also put recyclables into the top of the bin on my rubbish so they wouldn't take it. On a few occasions I had to take my rubbish to the tip myself (6 mile round trip) as there is no room to store it for 2 weeks in the flat.

I tried speaking to them and they always said they would stop but they didn't. In the end I ended up buying a lock for the bin so at least then the only opportunity for them to put rubbish in it was between in being put out and being taken back in.

So I say find out who it is and speak to them first. If they still persist buy a lock.

I'd just take the bag out and dump it on the ground really.

In our house we fill the bin easy, both of them, so when I put our bin and my neighbours out I sometimes put a bag of ours in their bin. That then gets emptied so shouldn't cause any harm.

I have this problem too. It's really frustrating when you take your rubbish out to find your bin has been filled by someone else. Even though that someone else has their own bin (which is also full). What am I supposed to do with my rubbish when this happens?

It's not a massive problem and I haven't spent any time trying to figure out who is doing it or even posted a thread on the internet in which I go mental at everyone.. But I still feel a bit let down by my neighbors and disrespected. If you're managing to produce 2 wheelie bins worth of rubbish per week from a 2 bed flat, you've got your own problems. Don't dump (literally) them on your neighbors.

Well it's plainly obvious that some of you have absolutely no idea how some Councils work and what an absolute pain having no space in your bin can be.
Four times we've had our rubbish left because some **** had put something in it that doesn't go in a grey bin so the Council won't take it.
At least 10 times we've been to our bin and can't put anything else in it because some **** has put their rubbish in it and when bin collections are once every fortnight it means a trip to the Incinerator which costs time & petrol money.
We now keep the bin at the back of garden which is a complete pain but at least it doesn't mean extra trips.
When some of you are old enough to have your own place you will understand.

OP, ignore everyone who has said 'get a life' etc happens a lot in gd with this kind of thing. they are (as you point out) probably late teens/early 20's and probably still live parents or student accomodation and have no grasp of why you would peeved at what is happening. you are right to be peeved. it is discourteous and taking advantage. don't forget you pay for this service.

you are fully within your rights to return their rubbish to them. another poster said how it's not a problem and his neighbours and others use one anothers bins, they probably ask. if my neighbour asked to do it on one occassion i would allow it, more than once, we have a little bit of a problem, a trivial one, yes but life is all about keeping problems to a minimum. what your neighbour is doing, is making their problem, your problem. they should ask your permission. end of.

Can anyone explain to me how these other people are filling his bin? I don't get it... even when I lived in a terrace nobody else had access to our bin unless it was left out in the alley/street.
