Netflix here we go again.

Honestly only keeping Netflix at the moment for the inane romance nonsense my wife watches after I go to bed and the kids stuff for my son. I can't remember the last thing of note I watched that made me think the sub was worthwhile. Shame as it used to be a powerhouse of content, now it's just soulless content mostly :(

It really did. Had Netflix alone for 6 years and was never left wanting for more until recently

But nothing much out there for my tastes outside of Netflix either.

Odd show or two like star trek strange new worlds. But very very lacking.

Yeah I often struggle to find something I want to watch, lately though I’ve watched Sanctuary that was really good and now watching Bloodhounds which is pretty good as well.
Personally I think it’s the same with all the subscription services, too many I feel, if some consolidated I think it would be a lot better.
It’s to fragmented now with services like Paramount, Disney, years back we only had the big boys like Netflix and prime, now all these studios want a piece of the pie, so content gets taken away and onto their platforms.

Yeah netflix and Prime were fantastic options when they released that finally made me drop my VM TV package, saved a fair bit as well. But now with everything fragmenting into its own subscription service, i honestly can’t justify all the monthly payments for how little i watch on each service. I feel like it may push a lot of people back into the ‘bay’ world of seeking entertainment.

I don't mind the fragmentation, it should hopefully drive a little competition between services and raise the quality of content.

Netflix certainly feels like the Channel 5 of subs right now though, while other services have less overall content, the general quality seems better.

From my perspective is far worse. Maybe coincidental, but as soon as amazon prime and D+ started hoovering people up Netflix seemed to go down hill.

That's fine, but the overall level of content has gone down. Never seen anything if interest on amazon prime when I had the trial.
D+ I exhausted after 3 months of a six month trial

I think it's going to take a while until subs start taking a hit for services to ramp things up - or they don't bother and a load die off, remains to be seen. Netflix are just relying on familiarity and a pure quantity approach to keep going imo. If Netflix were a new service now just starting and not a household name, I think they'd struggle with their current quality.

There are rumours HBO might be selling off content to Netflix so that could help in their quality department, if HBOMax was in the UK, i'd have a sub. I have to make do with NowTV for any HBO content at the moment.

Does anyone know an answer to this question?

If i get my sister to add me onto her account as a additional user that does not live in the same household for £4.99 does that mean i can install onto several devices in my home or just 1? I cant seem to find the information on their website.

A bit late but according to their help pages it is just 1 device at a time.

Key differences between extra member accounts and typical member accounts:

  • Extra members can watch Netflix on any device, but only on 1 device at a time.
  • Extra members can also download titles, but only on 1 phone or tablet at a time.
  • Extra members can only have 1 profile and cannot create additional profiles.
  • Extra members must activate their account in the same country associated with the account owner's.
    • Example: If the account owner signed up in Costa Rica, the extra member must create and activate the extra member account in Costa Rica.

Yeh, so they are removing the cheapest basic ad free plan for new or resubscribers, seems like if you're already on this plan you're ok (which i am).
They've added 6 million new subscribers too, figures not seen since the pandemic according to bbc news.

Lol, so they get a load of new subs, then they remove the cheapest ad free tier, now waiting for the incoming news of 6m + subs lost.

Netflix really don't know what they are doing. I think its a case of Netflix being too big for their boots now, and now having to appease the investors.

That's what many people said when they introduced this password sharing checking, yet it seems to have done them ok.

True but many of them subscribers would likely have subbed to the ad free basic tier, and many will bin the sub after a month or so, like many of us do, then they will see they can't re sub to this tier down the line.
If many of these new subscribers were password sharing, many clearly didn't want to pay for Netflix, so they would have gone for the cheapest sub going, now their only option will be a cheap tier but with ads, which not everyone likes. Can see it now "Netflix loses millions of subscribers" in a month or so time.

What really annoys me is you get all these fragmented channels with their own subs and they make a show, which is "pretty good" but maybe not Stranger things / Mandelorian levels of quality..

and then they have the cheek to say "we are cancelling it because it did not get the viewer levels needed!".

perhaps if they didnt put out on such fragmented platforms more people would have watched them. big companies have always been buggers for this, make an interesting new show, end the season on a cliff hanger and then can it.
but its getting way worse now..

many years ago i used to pirate a lot of TV stuff.... however i stopped. with amazon prime, netflix and the base sky package i had all the content i needed.

however the piracy threat is still there for these companies, and now we have paramount+, Discovery+, Disney+, Apple TV, on top of prime, netflix, sky and terrestrial (and am sure there are others) no wonder people are being tempted back to the dark side.

I really want to watch Silo. I know little about it but have been told by multiple people its worth a watch................ i have no interest in getting Apple TV however..... but i know all it takes are 2 or 3 clicks on a website (along with good adblocker in Brave brower) and i could be watching it free... that isnt a great place for the industry to be in imo.

Just like they did with the password sharing they'll have crunched the numbers, it even says in the article that the uptake of the ad supported tier has been higher than expected and is making them more money per sub than the lower end non ad subs.

Of course it may bite them at some point but they obviously think it's worth the risk and they're the ones with all the data.
