Netflix here we go again.

I actually don't watch a lot of stuff off streaming services, watch a lot more sport than anything else but it does add up.

We got rid of Sky a few years ago because it was "expensive" and to be fair the full package with sport/movies, etc is the days.
We pay £15 a month for the top Netflix package, Now TV and Amazon Prime (although I tend to think of the TV aspect of Prime as an extra as I use the Prime Delivery a lot).

Disney + is an odd one, I seem to get given free 12 months subs like confetti, Samsung seem to hand them out all the time
I have the same Netflix, Amazon prime and Now TV collection. Netflix seems the most useful to me. I only have Amazon Prime because of wanting Prime for deliveries. I don't watch much on there. I drop and resubscribe to Now TV if I see a deal and there is something I want to watch but it is by no means and must have for me. I dropped Sky last year after realising I hardly watched it and they kept pushing the price up.

I've seen an annoying trend recently with films being removed from Amazon so I can't even rent or buy a film there if it has been moved to something like Paramount+. So I am buying and renting fewer films now too. I've dabbled with Disney and Apple but again they aren't permanent subscriptions. I will only subscribe for an occasional month.

Fragmentation is causing me to watch a lot less. I'm not going to be goaded into subscribing to everything. I spend much more time now on Youtube instead. I haven't even bothered upgrading my TV in years because it doesn't seem worth it now. Some of these services are definitely going to pop in the next few years.

EDIT: If it wasn't for wanting to watch the news occasionally, and my wife liking Gardeners World and The Great British Bakeoff, then I would be cancelling my TV licence too. That is probably the worst value out of all of them. I could easily replace the live news with various Youtube channels though. I guess it's a matter of getting ready to pull off the plaster in one rip.

(from r4 news article) The ramifications of the strikes are that netflix will not block dump complete series , for the GenX proverbial binge watch,
rather deliver them week by week, like linear tv - lol - so they'll have to remember the plot from the previous week.

Assume the price rise charges for shared accounts is still in trial? I have been let relative's abroad use my account occasionally and have not yet got an email/price increase.

I think it might be listed in their Help page on the website. I quoted a bit from there on the previous page here, but missed that bit out IIRC

I heard that for many years about sky and now look at sky prices and millions of people still pay it :(:(:(

Same goes for GPU's ;)
Indeed, I think the only thing we are likely to see is mergers/acquisitions as some of the smaller players like paramount+ are going to really struggle for profitability and might decide they are better off in a strategic partnership with Disney+, Netflix or Amazon. Price increases on everything are here to stay until inflation calms down everything is going up at a scary rate right now.

Couple of months ago I started watching a movie on Prime ( I don't normally but it looked interesting)... It was free... Half way through I was so tired I decided to go to sleep and watch the rest tomorrow.

Next day I turn on my Firestick and go to Prime.. the same movie I was watching the night before is suddenly not free and I need to pay to watch it! I was thinking wtf... Then just opened an 'alternative' completely free app.. found the movie and finished watching it.. and thought why am I even bothering to pay for Prime.

There's no way the price increases will ever be undone. All companies seem to be at it ATM, shame my pay isn't going up with inflation.

I watched season 1 of something on netflix recently, i recall it said there were 4 seasons. i enjoyed it, finished watching season 1, let it automatically play the next season and it starts playing season 4! i wonder what's going on, it turns out seasons 2 and 3 aren't on netflix! what's the point in having a show on your streaming service with missing inbetween seasons? so i've just paid for a month on now tv where i can watch season 2 and 3. anyway they can get cash out of you they will.

I think it'll be down to licencing with some other network having the deal those other seasons.
Amazon Prime is the same.

Maybe, still quite annoying. Must admit i tried to pirate the missing seasons but gave up due to the very slow download rate.

Some series on Amazon you get to a point and then you have to pay extra on top to watch them. Rip off :/

Like energy, prices won't go down. Their costs will drop, but they will just skim off more profit.

Try illegally downloading a GPU though....

Very selective now with streaming. Only one that stays is Prime as it has additional features like the delivery, music (ableit limited), kindle (again limited), etc in the package.

I've noticed that if you subscribe to Now TV for a couple of months and then cancel they will almost always offer you a discount to stay. I just went to cancel again and got another offer.

Pret keep doing the same with my coffee subscription, which the whole family use. For the last two months I've been offered a 50% discount to stay with them.
