Netflix is going up to £9.99 & £13.99 next month

They want to get the bitrate increased again if a price increase is happening, they dropped it last year due to 'lockdown' and people staying at home and haven't increased it but claim they've found better compression and bitrate but shows still don't look as good as they used to, example 4k videos used to average 25mbps according to the Netflix info window, now it's down to 4.5mbps and doesn't increase.

Something might be wrong there, my reported bitrates on the app on my LG TV returned back to their pre-lockdown values after a few months.

I binned my Netflix subscription, far too much emphasis on their own content, for understandable reasons they want too minimise cost on paying licenses to other studios, and their back catalogue of films is rubbish, I'm talking 80s/90s.

You really need to use it in conjunction with a VPN to get access to all countries to have maximum availability of content.

I agree mine are at around 15Mb/s, I've never had 25 reported, but mine never dropped to 5mb/s (although saying that, I was watching a lot of discs from my collection) as 4k watching at that bit rate would look rubbish surely? That's very very low... netflix and amazon have done a cracking job with the codecs they're now using and long may it continue, it'll never be like 4k discs, but 99% of people don't care anyway... it's certainly a good picture and their 1080 content also blows Sky's picture quality into the weeds!!!

Don't think netflix has ever been 25mbps...If i remember right 4k was 16mbps (or 15.9mbps) then they dropped it in the lock down to around 8mbps

I don't know what it was after the lock down as i mainly gave up watching stuff on there after they dropped the bitrate
(The Apple 4k ATV is over 20mbps or it was before the lockdown)

EDIT: Think your getting mixed up with the recommend internet connection speed needed for netflix 4K ;)
Netflix’s 4K bitrate maxes out at 16Mbps. That said, the service requires at least 25Mbs to stream 4K content.

It definitely used to max out at 25mbps as confirmed by Netflix support when I was having a issue and they rang me from the US to go through it, they did drop it down to 15mbps then since they changed the bitrate again it hasn't gone back up.

I agree with you Apple TV 4k looks amazing compared to what Netflix now offers, on the OLED or normal 4k tv, shame really.

I have only ever seen 15.9mbps with my 4K package

And also all the links i looked at by googling say netflix max was 16mbps

Even the netflix techblog says 16mbps Optimized shot-based encodes for 4K: Now streaming! | by Netflix Technology Blog | Netflix TechBlog
The premium bitstreams, launched several years ago, were rolled out with a fixed-bitrate ladder, with fixed 4K resolution bitrates — 8, 10, 12 and 16 Mbps — regardless of content characteristics.

Still great value IMO.

I've just cancelled tidal as £20 pcm for music is mental. Through speakers I can't tell the difference than Spotify and Spotify is a lot cleverer.

With my headphone rig yes in critical listening then I can hear a difference.

Just look at some people ******* away £65-70+ on sky for terrible audio and video quality.

I have had 4k package for a quite a while and only ever noticed it say 15.25mbps I think, when I have checked. Also Netflix support are completely useless with anything technical based.

These streaming services only make sense to me while we can account share to bring down the cost, if that ends then the majority will be cancelled.

Netflix, Prime, Disney+, Apple TV, Now TV etc etc it all gets way too expensive if I were paying full price for each of them and tbh we don't really watch them that much so once the cheap deals end they are gone.

It's less than £15 a month.

Cheapest package is a fiver.

You do realise people pay £100 a month just for sky?

Netflix price to me is fine and in line with alternative services.

Hell a TV license is circa £15 a month. So to say Netflix is expensive is ludicrous.

Exactly I'm amazed people think £15 a month is expensive. Compare it with sky, TV license, etc it's a drop in the ocean.

Plus majority of people share accounts. People have gotten too used to the free content and gravy train thus far.

Amazon now have live sports. It's only a matter of time before packages become a thing where you can upgrade your Netflix subscription to include live sports, access to the new movies via a Netflix cinema subscription and then it's costing you £30 a month.

I said it gets too expensive when you add up multiple streaming services. Netflix I would probably keep on a lower package if I wasn't splitting the cost, I can't say the same for Prime video, Apple TV or Now TV. Maybe keep Disney+ for a bit or just re-sub when something good gets added.

I don't really get the fuss over Netflix content either, sure they do have some really good series but most of it is rubbish. In a weeks viewing 90% of what we watch is still on the main 5 channels, the vast majority BBC.

Oh and anyone that pays £100 a month for Sky either has too much money or is an idiot (maybe both) :p

I only pay for a couple of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime and both still represent good value. Call it a tenner a month for Netflix and i pay an annual subscription for Prime at £79. Works out at £6.58 per month.
Prime tends to get the new films soon after release. Either buy, rent or wait a while for it to go on Prime free. Choice across the two is plenty for me and some family members who share Netflix :D.

I went from having the full package on everything. To alternative methods.

I now only pay for prime because of the delivery and I use it a lot.

The money saved from sky, Netflix, TV license was all put into an unraid server and a small monthly VPN service.

Will take a year or so to break even after that point I'll be saving circa £100 a month.

TV license is the one that really irks me. They need to move to a private model either make it subscription service a la Netflix or bring in advertising.

To just charge everyone when some make extremely little use of their service is outdated. I also don't like the fact that you can have exclusive content. That shouldn't be allowed. Especially for sports and TV shows, etc.

Everyone should be allowed access and pay a fair rate for access. Then let the services compete against each other on fair grounds.

Like there should be no reason to require 6 different subscriptions it should all be available through one with many companies competing on that basis.

I'm not paying that much for Full Fat Netflix via Sky, think I'm paying around £5/month. My Sky bill will go up at some point this year, they always do - but as long as I'm with Sky I'll probably continue with Netflix regardless. They do need to justify the price increase, cannot say there has been much "stunning" content over the past 12-18 months that could warrant the price increase.

The streaming services is a business and business put up there prices every one/two years Netflix, Amazon prime, Disney+ is still cheaper then BBC & Sky they don't need to justify anything, but you have choice you want it you have to pay for it. if not move on:)

No matter how rants on theses forums you make you can't change the prices going up and business don't read any forums;)
