Netflix is now in the UK

There is no advantage to them doing that though as all that would happen is they'd probably lose subs over it. I imagine the loophole will continue unless some of the film and TV companies that have content on Netflix pressurise them to tighten their region control.

But what you are doing is no better than torrenting it, they don't have the rights to show it over here, they're not doing it out of spite.

Hmm, I can see they have added quite a lot of content, still, can't say im happy that I can't actually browse their entire selection before signing up. Have a few TV series on my lovefilm list that I wouldn't mind being able to watch straight away, shame I can't check to see if they are available on netflix.

What are you after? I'll search for you.

Also interested in this, since I would prefer to watch online than wait for Lovefilm to post out discs. Would you be able to see if they have Community series 2 on there, and also Source Code? Thanks

Lovefilm do seem to be making an effort to get more of their catalogue online though, the last few times I visited the site they had some movies that interested me available online for free.

None of those, except for Heroes, are on Netflix UK.

I must be one of the only ones that's quite impressed.

HD streaming with 5.1 working fine and although not quite 1080p it's certainly better than any of the love film streaming movies.

Using Xbox for it.

currently watching spooks as i've never seen it and being a bit sad and watching x-men from the beginning. I think for a newly released product there is plenty of choice as long as they expand it over time.

  • Band of Brothers - not available on Netflix US or Hulu
  • Deadwood season 2 & 3 - not available on either
  • Fringe season 1, 2 & 3 - available on Hulu
  • Heroes season 3 & 4 - Hulu and Netflix
  • Lost - Netflix and Hulu
  • Nikita (hot), the new one - Netflix and Hulu
  • Sanctuary season 1 & 2 - Hulu, time limited
  • Star Trek DS9
  • Star Wars Clone Wars Season 2 on
  • Supernatural
  • Terminator Sarah Conners Chronicles

The US DNS thing will allow you to watch Hulu - 480p (free, adverts) and US Netflix - 720p (paid, no adverts).

I'll check the rest soon.

It doesn't match quality of good 720p blue-ray rips to be fair but it's still way ahead of what one would expect from a streaming service.

I've heard that the 1080p service has been running in the US for a while? Can't check it atm though.

I'm very excited about it and was ready to subscribe seeing that I could have found a new use for my junkbox but guess what, that ****** little thing requires a Gold membership to stream Netflix or any other video service.

And for what, I ask. I overpaid for that POS in the first place, it has no use nowadays other than playing DVDs, sounds like a jet taking off, still have to pay subscription fee to Netflix, pay for the broadband and they want me to spend over £30 a year for the ability to stream movies. **** them, I say.

There's now an easy way to access the US content on Netflix. It was always possible to access it before but you had to sign up with a valid US address and credit card and then use a VPN.

However now it is open in the UK, simply sign up with your UK address and credit card. Then use a service called unblock-us. You change the DNS settings on your computer or console to make Netflix think you are in the US.

Unblock-us have a free 1 week trial, I'm using it now and have access to the US Netflix library on my PS3. There is a lot more content, and more recent movies. For example the recent movies 'Senna', 'Limitless' and 'True Grit' are on the US version. You can switch back to the UK Netflix by changing your DNS settings back to what they previously were.

I've done the DNS stuff and now have US Netflix. One thing I don't get though is what happens after the 1 week free trial. Does the DNS address simply stop working? I don't really get how they could detect that though.

well when you first connected did it not ask you to re-enter your email before sending you to netflix?

i assume after 1 week the cookies expire and the next website you visit will take you to unblock-us and will require you to sign up

.

Nah you didn't. Any address just find one and any credit card and your sorted.
And it's really not worth it after a few months especially as a decent VPN will cost the same if not more than Netflix.

Just tried netflix via unblock to US version, works on boxee and appletv2, totally superb, I dropped sky last month, and for £5.99 + $5.99 basically less than £10 I can get all US netflix, they have most if not all the UK stuff anyway.
This is great stuff.

I'm confused as to how exactly this particular unblocking service knows you're a paying customer? I mean, they just hand out DNS addresses on the "How to set up" page?

If you configure your router to use those addresses, how on earth do they know that you've paid?

Seems potentially fishy to me.
