New 144hz 4k monitor spotted, INSANE PRICES!!!

Got the money but as above really, for me and my wants/needs, this monitor doesn't come anywhere close to providing the same experience/value that I get from my OLED TV, that and I can think of much better ways to spend £2000.....

Nope, but I'd argue that the Acer X34P@£799 absolutely buries these monitors for value. Not all of us can be so frivolous with our hard-earned.

The criteria for "value" is very low on the list when it comes to the best item in the world for its segment. This is the best gaming display, not a "good enough" gaming display.

I've already said this is bleeding edge tech, but not without it's flaws. Am personally looking forward to future iterations. The Gsync module itself is insane!! :)

I found out why my HDR games look relatively "washed out" compared to SDR. It appears there is something broken in the chain of game -> driver/NVIDIA control panel -> Windows 10 -> HDR display. Normally, if you set digital vibrance above 50% in the NVIDIA control panel, it will start to clip bright color on a color chart. This isn't so until above 65% while Win 10 is in HDR mode (or games). Digital vibrance on the desktop actually affects full screen games. So digital vibrance set at 65% for HDR games is about the proper color in testing to SDR 50%. You can control Digital Vibrance automatically for gaming with a utility called VibranceGUI.
Now my HDR games look as they are suppose to, absolutely glorious!

Some serious hardware in these monitors:

Also interesting about the quality of the components that went into the new HDR G-sync module. That is some serious hardware for a monitor and makes the price not seem so crazy anymore. But everyone wants everything on the cheap these days...
Yeah, serious hardware equals £1k at most when talking about a 27" monitor. Maybe 20-30% more for superwide. Cheap is £150; I don't think anyone's asking for this monitor for £150. £2k with a fan is a joke though. Monitors were already overpriced before this came to market.

Still non-user-upgradeable firmware on a 2k monitor. Magic.

Considering these monitors are sold out in the U.S., apparently a lot of people disagree with your random value assertion.
I haven't said what I think of people who buy them regardless of my value assertion. Personal insults aren't permitted here. What I will say is they're keeping the price high for the rest of us.

I don't believe the average pc gamer can afford these monitors, they are certainly not good value for the money, I'm sure many would like one? it seems like the target audience is for folk with plenty of money to spend, and HDR is subjective, I don't see why 144Hz at 3840x2160 would cost the manufacturers a lot to implement, did some report you have to overclock to get 144Hz on these monitors? are these monitors 3840x2160 120Hz default?

Your right... actually they are a bargain! 27" IPS monitor for 2000! Just because some people bought the first batch does not make them good value!

Right, so the best item in its respective segment in the world "should be a bargain" and something "the average gamer can afford". It's a good thing you guys aren't in charge, or we'd all be stuck on 60 Hz 1080p 24" monitors still.

On the other hand when after 8 years there is still no worth while upgrade for my old monitor it kind of suggest they are doing something wrong with the advancement rate.

No its very good that we have FALD and new Gsync module etc. But the actual product here is not that good 1) it is stupidly expensive by any standards 2) It is only 27", this new technology would be much better on a larger screen. I would be interested to see the actual part cost of the monitor eg. how much the parts in it cost compared to the retail price.

The cost of R&D would vastly outweigh the manufacturing cost. You can't simply add the cost of the parts together and call it a rip off.

I do think anyone justifying the price of 2200 for a 27" IPS monitor that is actually 98hz with 444 colour is a bit mental though, come on now the monitor is very over priced can we just agree on that.

Nope. According to the PC perspective tear down the HDR G-sync module with 3gb ram costs over $500 by itself. And thousands of hours of manpower went into the firmware on these.

This monitor is epic to game on and nothing comes close.
