*NEW* 2015 Dell Inspiron 15 - 7559, i7 6700HQ/GTX960M owners thread

say if my budget stretched to it and I had the room to buy it and use it would you guys say the Alienware 17 R3's are worth it? not going to bother with the 16GB RAM as its £110 more and you can buy a 16GB kit of hyperX for £65.. but considering sending my 7559 back when it arrives and ordering an alienware, it's got all the ports ill need and its got thunderbolt which should help with it lasting a little longer than a normal laptop would?

is the 6820HK worth it over the 6700HQ as can get the alienware with both?

and then is the 980M 8GB worth it over the 960M 4GB? trying to weigh up whether I should just go alienware ha! plus it would be the 17" screen over the 15" still only wanting 1080p though as anythinh above that would kill battery and be no point as if i wanted bigger ill plug into my 1440p ultrasharp! :) the reason im thinking of going larger into the alienware is i was originally going to buy a second build then opted for a laptop as not only could I use it for friends as a 2nd rig but I could use it on the move at my girlfriends and so on.. so yeah if somebody could answer my above questions id be grateful!
 
If you want to spend the extra money the the Alienware 17 is a considerably better machine. Tbh if I was spending that sort of cash I would either get an Msi GT72 or Asus G752 with G-Sync as the Alienware 17 does not have it.
 
G752 better? spec me one?

the only reason im considering this is obv the discount they were providing on my 7559 they'll still do on my other im trying to haggle it down to £1,400 though! for the 6820HK and 8GB as ill just add the 16GB myself at a later date, heres the specs on the ones ive been given prices for though!

The price is good for the spec but without G-Sync I would not buy. My G752 has it and tbh it makes a huge difference.

why don't you wait and see how the Inspiron is first ?

really G-SYNC that much of a dealbreaker? I don't even have G-SYNC on my pc setup to be fair? :P and thats a 2k build altogether hmm?
 
I have a (old) 17" gaming laptop, bear in mind these things are usually HEAVY and not even that comfortable on the lap. They also tend to have rather dramatic PSUs too. 15" is the sweet spot for me, unless you are going to lug it around in a car.

Finally managed to join together my Dell account with my guest order that relates to my 7559 so I could look at the couriers real time tracking - mine also indeed left China's manufacturing site on the 12th and it currently says that my delivery ETA is the 19th as opposed to Dell's original ETA a few days ago (23rd). Fingers crossed the laptop arrives on Friday :)

No update on my delivery it's saying the ETA is tomorrow but nothing has changed in a week....

I cancelled my second machine and will order it from a 3rd party seller. Ordering from Dell is so painfully slow. 2 weeks for delivery is far too long....

I managed the same thing today - Jebus, what pain in the barse!
Anyway, according to the the tracking mine is going to be here tomorrow as it left Lutterworth this afternoon. My RAM and SSD arrived yesterday.
 
Mine has just been delivered.....

Mine has an LG D04B9 screen it's a lot better than the one I had in my review model.

I think mine may have the LG screen im debating it so much about whether to keep this laptop or whether to send it back and go for the alienware model I suggested previously! :( grrr moogs why is laptop buying so damn frustrating ha! i dont even remember getting this frustrated buying my pc!

It depends what you want from a laptop. If you want top spec performance all games in high settings then go for the Alienware although tbh I would not buy an Alienware.


I have no issues with the WiFi just updated the drivers and it runs at full speed 867mbps without issue. The screen is sharp with no bleed. It's not as bright as the G752 at max brightness but it's bright enough I have turned it down a couple of notches for indoor use.

My tracking also caught up yesterday afternoon and arrived & departed out of Lutterworth yesterday afternoon, and it finally arrived at work before I arrived this morning :)

Currently setting it up as we speak, I like the feel of it :)

Moogley's - mine's also got the same LG panel :)

Something to point out as well, I also got round to installing my new Samsung M.2 SSD earlier on, Kingston RAM & Killer WiFi card - all went in and installed without a hitch. However, to my horror I discovered that Dell did not include the screw to hold down an M.2 SSD (Despite other forum reviews stating that they do include it already screwed in for the convenience of adding an M.2 drive) though what I did was use one of the 4 x HDD frame screws which were more than fine to use in this case.

Overall so far I am very happy with this laptop, I originally let it finish installing windows and the updates before adding the extra bits which took no time at all, then I cloned the original 1TB HDD to the SSD using Samsung's Magician program which went without a problem and then formatted the original 1TB HDD :)

Just a note on the M2 if you bought a crucial they supply screws just in case you didn't know. My laptop fortunately came with one in the M2 slot. Sounds like you guys are getting the better LG screen, thats good.
