*NEW* 2015 Dell Inspiron 15 - 7559, i7 6700HQ/GTX960M owners thread

No advantages it's mainly bitlocker and networking. If all you do is browse and game then I would not bother for the hassle.

I just registered the laptop and logged in with my MS account and then did a fresh 10 home install with the MS Iso and it runs lovely and no Dell bloat ware. Tbh there was not a lot but I like a nice clean install....

Yeah think i'd prefer the clean install especially since I'm sticking my Samsung in anyway, and ahh that's ok then I was just worried about the wifi drivers but if they all install with windows update then that's cool! :)

fans seem to be kicking up abit restoring kodi to a few firesticks but probably just noticing it more as rooms quite and I'm trying to scrutinize ha! :) oh well hopefully this will be good value for money, rather than going alienware, and I'm sure once I stick my extra RAM and SSD in there the speed will increase too! :)

what antivirus you guys install? I usually just stick MSE on there and let that do its work? any recommendations for windows 10 such as settings to tweak and stuff ive already put it on high performance and turned off the hard drive to never turn off as it will be an SSD in there which is obviously the really simple steps, and I'm thinking of just exploring around windows 10 to be fair! :)

If you use the media creation tool from Microsoft I linked above it will have the WiFi drivers then just use Win update once done for everything else.

The fans do kick in a bit on mine too not super loud but noticeable. Playing the Division beta they were very loud even though the temps were good.

The Alienware 17 is a noisy machine as well even though it has better cooling.

If I'm just browsing they turn off completely and it's silent.

I use Nod32 I have always found it very good and I got a 10 year licence for free a while back..

Not the Bios update you will need to do that separate. You can do that before you fresh install. There is also a firmware for the SSHD as well. All drivers will be included with Windows update. I would advise grabbing the Nvidia divers from Nvidia as it includes GeForce experience. The Dell drivers are just the display driver only.

The creation tool creates a USB bootable iso of Windows 10 the version it creates includes the Intel WiFi drivers. You will need to hit F12 at the Dell logo to select your boot drive and boot from the USB stick to install.

yeah that should be great thanks for the advice! so what I should download and run the BIOS update and I should also download the NVidia GeForce drivers, and then as they include the GeForce experience and stick that on a separate usb ready to install after fresh install? as for that SSHD firmware update should I also download and install that before the clean install? to be fair the SSHD is getting taken out and replaced by my SSD, so should I be doing the bios update before or after with this in mind?

ive completed the change so its all good only thing I want to ask about is my usb that was made into a bootable usb drive, its now instead of being a 64GB disc after I delete and format it via disk management, its a 32gb storage with the rest as unused but I cant edit or change it at all?

You don't really need to stick the Nvidia drivers on a USB stick just download and install once Windows is installed. They change so often it's not really worth keeping them. It will not hurt doing the SSHD update I have no idea what it does but you may as well do it.

No idea with the USB sizing. I used a spare 16GB stick and let the drive creation do its thing.

Mine arrived today. And it came with the LG screen as well - score!!!

Done some driver updates & BIOS, now downloading the recovery image before doing a clean install sometime this week after grabbing a spare USB stick from Tesco.

Recovery image download is crawling along at 1Kbps :(

OK Moogleys, will do!

Chuffed I won the panel lottery :)

RAM and SSD tomorrow, fresh install Wednesday and then Steam/Origin/Wargaming installs the rest of the week.

Anyone else removed the disfiguring silver 'features' sticker yet?

I have removed all the stickers. They just annoy me..... :)

Hi, this forum has been very useful for me. I was planning on buying this laptop today (i7 6700hq, 1tb hybrid ram, gtx 960M, 8gb ram) and I was just wondering what the battery life is like for you guys when word processing and browsing the internet? Thanks

Very decent, run mine for ~6 hours browsing and minor productivity (Word/Excel/Outlook), screen brightness ~25%.

Anything 3D or video will drain the battery far faster though. Could probably scrape a bit more time using low power mode, I just leave it on default

yeah pretty decent battery wise, and my stickers were put on a dodgy angle so think they're getting removed tonight! finally set windows 10 up the way I want it although my tiles are probably different to a lot of people as i just have the majority on small then arranged how I wanted them! :) is there anyway to have your mail have a password on it, as when i load my laptop up I want others to be able to use it but don't want them having access to mail and things?..

Hi guys, probably gonna pick one of these up for video editing / light gaming. Where can I get it for £700 though? Google search didn't reveal much. Trust message would be appreciated ;)
