3x Laptops arrived yesterday
2 with the better screen, I toyed with the idea of sending the other back, but TBH it isn't terrible and the Kids will never notice !
Aye, the LG screens are a bit more vibrant, but the BOE is good, without being side by side you would be hard pushed to notice. I am guessing if you wanted you could get software to bump up the vibrancy, Nvidia used to have something in the control panel but seems not any more ?
Re the Hybrid drive, try before you make your mind up, it seems reasonably quick to me, I don't think I will bother installing an SSD now.
One slight downside, I was hoping for around 5700+ 3Dm11 score, mine are sitting at ~5400 after updating to latest NVidia drivers. Not much difference in real terms I guess.
So far though, I am pretty impressed for a £700 laptop
USB DVD drives are much of a muchness. Pick one with the features you want. If you already have a PC with an optical you can share it over a network to install stuff etc
Kinda, That's the only benchmark I could find for various spec laptops.
The MSI rep's thread on here lists results for their gaming laptops, so I used that as a comparison tool
You can max the sliders out in MSI Afterburner for some free performance if you like, I didn't notice any ill effects. Don't feel the need though, not that I've had any time to play games lately
Just wanted to update you guys, got this now extending to an LG Ultra wide 25" monitor and when set to main display the 960m is driving GTA 5 at full res and runs as fine as the native display on the laptop.
Anyone else have weird Elan driver for the touchpad? I updated via the device manager and now when I double click the mouse icon in the task bar i get a blank elan screen where the settings should be. If I go to Mouse Properties, select the Elan tab and click Options it crashes. What's up? Am I using an old/incorrect driver?
For gaming I would say so, I was very surprised how well my sons plays F1 2015 with max settings, in fact they have coped very well with anything that's been thrown at them so far.
I think you are looking at around 1K+ to have something noticeably better performing unless its changed since I pulled the trigger on them.
Well you know when its under load, but I wouldn't say its terrible. I don't have much to compare to regarding other laptops, but certainly it wasn't something that made me think much about it, even when two side by side were gaming.
It makes a whoosh but it's more air noise than whinny fan sound that some laptops have. I find I can still happily game using the onboard speakers. The cooling does a great job on this machine the only thing to watch is it sucks the air exactly where your knees will be if on your lap. You really need a tray or something flat if you intend to use it on your lap.
