The RAM I used is not available on OCUK but searching for this in google you will find it.

Was about to pick up an SSD and RAM from your recommendation. They working out alright for you, any second thoughts?

Samsung 120GB 850 EVO M.2 SATA SSD ~£55
Kingston KVR16LS11/8 RAM 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L Non-ECC CL11 SODIMM 1.35 V, 204-Pin 1.5 V ~£25

Had no issues at all been working fine. The SSD makes a nice difference and the RAM works perfect in dual channel mode with the existing stick.

Hi guys
Am I right in saying I can add another 8gb ddr4 so dimm to my laptop as long as the voltage and speed are the same

Thanks for that, ordered today.

Sidenote, this laptop is now available from Dell directly for the £700 price tag but only for the next day. Got the seller down to £665. :)

Is there that much benefit going to 16gb? Obviously there is with the SSD but I can't imagine the extra 8gb making that much difference?

I'm likely going to be grabbing one in the next couple of weeks!

It's ddr3l, All the photos I've seen show a ddr3l slot and also it's listed as DDR3 on the site?

I'm sure I am right in saying that this will be compatible with the current stick,

Hi is this for me? If so its DDR4 as I ran the updated msi app if not please ignore me LOL

Memory: 8192 MB @ 1066 MHz

We are talking about the Dell 1559, not sure why your posting about an MSI laptop lol?

Edit: just read the posts, it seems you were just asking a general question. I and Moogleys read it as you asking about upgrading the Dell which is what this thread is! That's where the confusion has co,e from.

Hi Guys :)
How good is the hybrid disk drive in terms of load times ?
I presume there is space internally should you wish to install an SSD and retain the Hybrid ?
Is there room to install an optical drive or not ?

There is a free M.2 SATA slot (2280 size). A 120 or 250GB Samsung Evo SSD goes lovely with these. No on the optical. TBH I have not used optical since loading the Orange Box, which still required an ADSL kicking download :p

Hybrid drive is plenty quick for a 5400 2.5" drive, performs on par with good 3.5" desktop 7200 RPM drives from a couple of years ago.

Thanks guys, looks like this is one of the frontrunners for me (or more precisely my kids). :)
Only downside is no optical for games installed from disk, but I guess most new games can be purchased as downloads now.

Hoping someone can help me. I'm trying to use Android Development Kit on this laptop and I was prompted to install "Intel HAXM", which I downloaded and attempted to install, however I got an error message saying that it cannot install because "Intel Virtulization Technology" is not enabled.

So, I went in the BIOS, and there is an option for virtulization but it was already enabled. After some googling I found out that I needed to use the Dell CCTK software to enable this.

I downloaded Dell CCTK and found the virtulization as one of the settings, enabled it and exported the file as an executable. But now I'm stuck because even after running the exe file I created and rebooting the laptop, I still get the same error when trying to install Intell HAXM.

Can anyone help? This is getting frustrating.

How do people find the size and weight of this laptop?

I currently have a Dell E6330 but looking for something with some more power for when I go back to uni. I am working in London at the moment and my laptop isn't too bad to carry but this Dell is heavier and bigger still but hopefully not back breaking!

Size and weight fine. It's slimmer than my last 15.6, about the same weight though. Cooling in these is excellent and very quite unless hammering the CPU/GPU, near silent all other times.

Now if you're a pixie or metrosexual, you might have issues with the weight of the laptop (2.7KG) and charger (700g?) :p
