New 24" iMac 2.8Ghz Extreme - Ordered

When the original Intel iMac came out, we had similar wireless problems. It was sorted a few weeks later with an update.

Just keep making noise on the apple forums. :)

Hey.

Anyone know how well these new Imacs run games? The 24" one specifically, because the resolution will be quite high for a 256mb 2600pro?

I'm wondering because I may just purchase one, but would like to know the performance I can expect with say World of Warcraft.

Thanks!

Do a search on Google for 2600Pro reviews. Been doing that for my housemate (he's also looking at getting one), and there's quite a lot out there.

It's not that bad a card, but it's really nothing special. It's about equal to the 7600GT, if that helps - sometimes it's a bit faster, sometimes it's a bit slower. Doubt you'll be running any remotely recent games at 1900x1200 (or even 1680x1050) though, but you can always turn the resolution down to something more sensible.

Agreed with gfx, it aint the best but it sure will be sufficient.

I mean I had the first Intel imac, and that had a 256mb x1600. It ran BF2 (v.good settings), Day Of defeat, all Medal Of Honour and whatever else I wanted to play.

I have no doubt this current gfx will do the job, and also allows us to watch 1920x1080 movies :p

The 2600Pro will be appauling for running games at decent details at that high resolution. The 7600GT barely coped and that usually does a bit better than the 2600Pro.

Of course if your not gaming, its perfect.

The 2600pro may be slightly better than the 7300GT on paper, but you have to remember that the current drivers that Apple have for the 2600Pro SUCK.

Most iMac benchmarks I've seen have put the performance below or barely-on-par with the 7300 :(

Obviously, if this is purely a driver issue then things will get better!

When I got my Mac 2 years ago, it left Ireland and went to Belgium and back to UK. O_o

It took 2 weeks for mine as well.

Same story for most people, it's hard waiting for our new Macs.

I had to wait 2 weeks for my new MBP a couple of months ago.

If you order when the product is anything over 3 days (i.e. 5-7 , or 8-10 days) then it's always going to take 2 weeks.

I know it's hard but it's actually quicker to wait until the shipping time drops to 24hrs, otherwise you have to wait for them to ship it straight from the manufactuers plant in Shanghai.

I quite like waiting for the Shanghai deliveries, but it can seem like a lifetime if you check it every hour of every day! :D

My MBP took 9 days from ordering, and that was a week after launch.

Well its been said to arrive tomorrow when I rang up on Saturday...

It quickly changed from Arnhem to Northampton to Ramsbottom...

I'm all excited :D

Will post pics as soon as...

w00t.

And so it arrives :D

In the process of updating and installing various programs...

Pictures will arrive soon too, but I just cannot believe how beautiful it is and how big (and crystal clear) the screen is...

Amazing...Now for some testing ;)

Damn you PAC2007..

I'm trying to persuade the mrs that getting the iMac for me and the MacBook for her is the best all round option, but if she sees this thread I'm dead :p:D

Can't wait for the pics..

Well what can I say?

I'm blown away, completely...

To be honest its too big for the desk :D but that doesnt mean I'm changing it.

The best thing so far to test the iMac is the Matrix HDDVD's I have on my computer ;) - Thats a full 1080p movie(s) with the actually screen being bigger than the required 1920x1080 haha...

That being the iMac's res 1920x1200?...The screen size has to be seen to believed.

I havent tested it yet, still installing various programs etc...

This is the most boring part, getting the iMac how I want.

Already downloaded bootcamp 1.4 to test my games on it.

I have to say the screen (beyond all the hype regarding it) is fantastic.

Yes it can be reflective, but you then have to think about where you put it. I (as seen in pics) have the iMac facing away from window and there is a tiny bit of reflection when its off, but on its no problem (even in day time)

Everything appears brighter and clearer...It took my breath away to see the Matrix movies in all their HD glory...

Graphics test will be much later after all the Vista installing and updating.

PS. This new wired keyboard pwns HARD.

PPS. The Macbook will be for sale very soon (with warranty)
