New 4K TV

I would personally just pick up the Samsung 1080p 50" incher that is on the TV adverts for £350. Bargain. All this talk about calibration and noticing a difference in the picture is just silly. If you stick a bluray on the picture looks great either way.

PANASONIC VIERA TX-50A300B 50" LED TV (oh noes, it is a low lvl TV).

Not really. Just lol at being so anal about a TV. Paying a bit extra for an extra HDMI port or 2, a slightly thinner bezel. It's all marketing. It's like comparing an i3, or i7 and just using Windows. In the real world you cannot tell any difference if you are sitting at the right distance, and if you load up a bluray.

It reminds me of some old guy at my work that bought a top of the range 32" Panasonic for £750 a few years back. Flat screen. And was going on about how the picture was so amazing. His glasses to start with were an inch thick. But then he was the same guy that would spend over a grand on a DAC, and £50+ on a metre long HDMI cable and claimed it would improve the picture.

If you can afford it sure why not, but the difference these days is not all that great.

Ive been stalling on getting 4k for a year now ... and size is an issue . But Panasonic have released a one im tempted in .....

Panasonic TX-40CX680B @£700

what hi-fi review

It's a good tv tbh, As for the, you wont see any difference rubbish, you can clearly tell it's higher than a 1080p picture when in 4k.

I have the 55'' version and the new Firefox OS works really well, It does 4K from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, Vimeo,Usb and via the network, it also up scales pretty well in my opinion.

PS4 looks stunning on it, with 4k the recommended minimum distance you can sit to is 0.75 x the height of the Tv whereas with 1080p is 3x the height.

Sometime next month Freeview play will launch as well, so it will get all the catch up apps, with a newer and hopefully quicker 7 day roll back guide.

What is it like for standard definition? Unfortunately I will be watching some standard definition content on the odd occasion, not very often though.

And just to make sure this model is definitely compatible with Netflix 4K?

Thanks :)

100% compatible yes, watched the whole series of Bloodline, and starting Sense8 now, 4K lesbian sex scene was quite something :D

SD is ok, I don't think it's as bad as the review makes it out to be, the 4K HDMI port is HDCP 2.2 compatible also ready for the 4K players later this year.

Will take a look at this thanks :)

Do you know if this will be upgraded with freeview play? I don't really know if it would matter to me if it doesn't because I have an Xbox One anyway!

It wont no, only the 2015 range will have it, the older Freetime system is ok, but quite sluggish and not the most reliable, it also suffers quite a bit with odd light band issues down the sides of the screen.

You need glasses if that's the case. Please stop spouting your utter garbage :/.

i have better than 20/20 vision

you might want to take a look at this

http://www.rtings.com/images/resolution-4k-ultra-hd-chart.png

you need to be sitting at a maximum of 5 feet 6 inches or 1.6m for it to be worthwhile. that is the maximum obviously the closer the more benefit you see.

40 inch 4K is really really stupid idea unless your using it as a pc monitor and sitting 3 feet away.

this is a good one too

as is this

the full benefit of 4k on a 40 inch screen is seen from 2.5 feet away which is proven by the last link

got to agree with sonny on this one,
as for 8k, the tv would be wall size

My eyes must be lying to me then :( as it's in a chart, there for it HAS to be true.

what 4k content do you watch and what screen do you have and how far away do you sit?

it could be simply the fact your watching higher bit rate content than normal which is why you can see a difference nothing to do with the res.

e.g. 1080p recent james bond blu ray > 4k netflix because of the bit rate of the blu ray nothing to do with resolution.

a lot of people recommended buying a cheap 720p plasma at 42 inch over a cheap 1080p lcd on avforums back when people were asking for recommendations on a £400 tv 3 years ago.

because on a 42 inch tv at that sort of distance most wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p and the PQ of a plasma was a lot better than LCD and still is. so it didn't matter it was only 720p so therefore buying 4k would be a complete waste.

the only people who should be buying 4k atm now are people with gaming pc's and 27inch or bigger gaming monitors who sit 2-4 feet away. it doens't make much sense to buy 4k for a tv atm never mind a 40" one where only superman could see the difference.

to truly see the benefit of 4k you need to either be close to the screen or have a very large screen.

therefore the only people who should be buying 4k atm are pc gamers (who sit close to the screen) and those with money to burn (who can afford to burn it on real 4K content not crappy streams and on screens bigger than 60inches).

resolution is only one part of the puzzle. when people ask what is the best smartphone camera it's not all about megapixels. megapixels is one part of the puzzle there. sensor size, etc are all just as important. as is the software/firmware in control of the camera.

what 4k content do you watch and what screen do you have and how far away do you sit?

I can watch Full 4K resolution which is supplied by Panasonic or netflix/Amazon, and Youtube, Distance varies as it's not my Tv but in my store, Ideally you need 50'' and above to enjoy it fully, but no everyone has the space to fit it.

The current range of TV's also do quite a good job of upscaling HD content, sat next to a 1080p TV showing the same source it's clear which is the 4K model.

The only downside to this years models is the VA panel, yes it gives better black levels, but the colors drop off quite quickly once you move around the Tv.

I personally have a 55'' Cx680 model new for this year and it's fantastic, motion rate is lower, but sport doesn't interest me so i never really notice it, but the colors are much better this year than last, and also make the THX cert model AX802 look average in comparison.
