So is the bog standard G92 GTS 512mb like the equivilant of a top end brand pre clocked version of a GT?

Just wondering which one to buy...

Bog Standard G92 GTS

or

Preclocked 8800GT like a Zotac AMP or ASUS EN8800GT

Thought? Around £200 to spend

Just look at the results and decide for yourself.

The GTS is obviously not worth it if its 40-50 quid more over a GT, an overclocked card is probably so close to a GTS that you wouldnt notice the difference.

"Final Thoughts

Looking at these numbers I really feel that this just strengthens my point about the 8800GT 512MB being a crazy model. With a bit of overclocking on its stock cooler you can bring it up to the performance of the new stock clocked G92 based 8800GTS."

^ snipped from another site, cant post the addy because it has competitors i guess..

the GTS is a good card, but overall the GT is still best bang for buck, i think the same.

I would agree but looking at the prices there only seems to be around £10-£20 difference between the two. In which case the GTS is the better buy even if its just because of the better cooler. Obviously if the GT price drops to its RRP or the GTS price is silly like the current GT price then the GT is the better buy.

So 3 cards, the new GT, GTS's + the old GTX all at the same price and speed (as near as it makes no difference). Also with short supply of the GT, prices wont change much until Feb when new gen. cards start to appear. A pity ATI have nothing better to give serious competition at the moment.

Nvidia did well with the GT whether intentional or not. Drip-feeding the supply kept demand/hype high and enabled retailers to justify a premium on price with Nvidia taking the blame. The end result is a month+ of inflated prices and with hundreds of thousands sold and retailers have made a tidy profit.

e.g. if there was say a 50 quid premium on each card (short supply) with say 5000 units sold (and counting), that's 250,000 extra free money. Every launch should be done this way to maximise profits.

So which card to get if a purchase must be made before xmas?

Exactly GTX will still win hands down, until the 9800. You can't say the new GTS will be better than the GTX, unless your looking at how many million transistors or w/e, but actual gaming the GTX still wins.

I don't understand why people even believe the stuff he comes out with, all you guys have is his word, hell, anyone could go round forums and make these claims but it doesn’t mean you should believe them or even give them the time of day.

Besides I think the average gamer would probably be embarrassed to present a card history like that.

Why would anyone be embarassed? I went form an 8800GTS 640 to an 8800GTS 640 to a 2900XT to an 8800GT, and I dont give a **** what people think about my GPU history and as you can see there was one major messup in that were I got a 2900XT and thats going to be carried around for the rest of my life according to mav, hell if I applied for a job and somehow they found out I owned a 2900XT I dont think I would get the job.

Interesting change and yes I wouldnt employ you ;)...

ps3ud0

Have to admit easy i would have just stuck with the gtx as 8 pound profit is not exactly great after swapping all those cards to end up with a slower card. I take it you just like testing out different cards and are not looking for the best performance. The new gts is a nice card but for me at high resolutions and high levels of aa the gtx will still beat it.

Can we get back on topic please guys? :)
