The G92.8800GTS is officially released on Dec 3rd ..

They should be available to buy on this date from many suppliers, with more following when stock is fully distributed.

we shouldn't see the same mass shortages we saw with the GT.

So is that confirmed as a UK release then?

If so boy it's not long to go :p

Decisions decisions!
Got a 8800GTS 640mb, been offered £170 for it, don't know whether to buy a GT for a few weeks or just use an X300. Won't be able to play any games until the new GTS comes out if I do that though :(

Offered 170 and not sold it already? O_o

Really to bad we don't have official announcements of the release dates. I hope we hear something today about "new" 640mb version and maybe some info about the 3december releases. Guess we have to hope for the best and wait.

im thinking about ditching my GT for one of these if the price is rite and performance has a good gain in games. But i fear these are going to be closer to the £250 mark than people care to admit so an upgrade wont work out as beneficial as it would first seem.
May just hang on for the 9 series for a proper jump up the technology ladder

They say you're better off flogging it that using the set-up programme....:)

Normally yes a waste of time and money except just recently.

Anybody who bought a EVGA 8800 GTS 320Mb in the last 90 days could swap it for a 8800GT for the cost of shipping since lsit price of GT less than GTS. With 2nd hand prices of 8800 GTS 320MB having dropped recently, this is the cheapest upgrade route.

Secondly, with 8800GT cards being at inflated prices (EGG selling evga for $30 more than EVGA are on their website) and since the step up is the price difference between what you paid and the list price of the new card, it should be much cheaper to use the step up to the new GTS than selling your GT card especially once GT drop back down in price to where they should be ie £140 - £150.

Say you buy an "inflated" EVGA 8800GT today for £200. Once they are only £150 how much you going to get for it 2nd hand? £130ish? Say new 8800GTS EVGA cards are £260 on EVGA website and retailers. Selling wilkl cost you £130 to upgrade and the step up will cost you £60 + shipping.

Greebo makes some good points - In times of hyper-inflated prices the step up programme is not a bad idea to recover initial investment made when impending upgrades are round the corner...

Normally they overprice the cards, or atleast retailers under price em, what is happening with the GT is not normal as they are so low on stock.
