New 8800 GTS price + info

My GT arrives Tuesday :D
Like the look of the new GTS, but I only have room for single slot cards due to the slot being right up against my huge CPU cooler.
Holding off on the complete upgrade/rebuild, but the temptation of SLI/X-fire is beginning to build..

When i think about it i could probably get 3x 3870s for the price of 2x 8800 GTS. But i dont know how well 3 would work or how well they would be supported. Is there any Intel boards that can do 3x? Think its only amd at the mo isn't it.

Just noticed in benchmarks Gow shows the 8800GT to not be able to cope with AA (which is what people keep slating me for saying saying ooo no the 8800GT can handel AA easly you just dont want it to bla bla bla).

The GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB did well, pulling the same in-game quality settings, resolution and AF setting as the GeForce 8800 GT. Antialiasing is definitely not an option with this video card at any high resolution, you will likely have to set 1280x1024 and drop some in-game settings if you wish to use DX10 “On/Antialiasing” mode with this video card.

Do uyou think it will be the same for the GTS? I was hoping Sli gts would cope better. Perhpas not if the GT cant play Gow with 4xaa smoothly.
 
Not really sure what to do. I need to buy before christmas and there doesn't really appear to be a card which is going to last very long out at the moment which is worth the price. I have the money to go Sli with two new GTS's (estimating them to be around 270 quid). I dont ahve a 24" monitor yet though so ill be fine till i deside i want one.

I know the reason why the GT falls is the 256bit interface (which i also got slatted for when saying it let it down) and i know the GTS will have the same problem.

This seems like its been done on perpose by nvida. Think about it. everyone buys new G92 cards but they cant really play games at high resolutions with AA. They need a more powerful card but need one before christmas. OO after christmas new powerful cards come out that can run it. Gota buy a new card now.

The 256bit interface doesn't really hamper the GT all that bad i dont think, even at high resolutions with some AA/AF its still only a couple or so frames behind the GTX, its not exactly getting crippled.

Look at UT3, at 1920x1200 with 4xAA/16xAF, the GT is only 3 frames slower than the GTX with the same settings, 256bit interface not doing much damage there.

Is UT3 as demanding game as Gow though? I think its just simply bandwidth problems. Super fast card but with big textures and resolutions and aa and af perhaps the bandwidth is bottle necking it?

I gues it would make sence for nvida to release a card which can't quite run everything perfect so that they sell their new cards next year easly.

UT3 and GOW use exactly the same engine.
 
Is the engine not mostly cpu based though? Engine doesn't mean same graphics does it? Gota admit they do look pritty similar.

if tahts the case, then why the performance hit? tbh, i didn't even know gow was out till today anyone played it online?

Pretty odd, Dx10 with AA seemed pretty smooth on my GT at 1680x1050. :eek:

I think the main reason for the performance hit is Dx10, even without AA Dx10 runs like crap compared to Dx9 and looks no different, UT3 uses AA on Dx9. (albeit forced)

EVGA have a 90 day step up, so if you buy now, you can return the cards and upgrade within 90 days and just pay the difference....

8igdave really needs to try the GT for himself,actually play some games and stop reading reviews:p

He's convinced its crippled while we all play crysis lol
 
Kinda just speculative the power of these new cards until we see reviews. Suprised we haven't had any yet as the release of it is slated for 2 weeks time. Hope it isn't delayed either and/or in short supply, as that would suck. If it does turn out to be mediocre then I think I'll just get the 8800GT or ideally hold of until Jan 08 for a GX2 or Nvidia's offering and see what they are like in terms of performance/price.

i like reading reviews... i get bored otherwize... i dont want to do corsework lol.

Im confused by you saying "while we all play crysis" i dont think anyone is managing to run AA in that game and have the top settings. Is a pitty, hope they improve it with patchs.

Do you think the sli and crossfire support on that game will be good as they said about how its built for pc and all that. So theroiticaly once the drivesr come out escpialy nvida as i beleive its made with nvida in mind. I saw a review saying nvida cards would be able to do something ati cant. Think it was better quality aa (what a joke lol). I thought that was also monopalising the market a bit.

Anyway, do you think Sli should give 60-75% bonus in that game considering its ment to be so well optimized for a pc.

And my spelling is terrible in that post lol.

Agreed. Like wize people are claiming im trying to put the card down like im some smug person who hates the GT. Im only relaying Benchmark scores which are showing the 8800GT isn't doing so will with aa in gow. Im not making anything up. I am also curious as to why it does a lot better in UT and not so well in GOW.

But then again arn;'t all the cards doing well in UT?
