New Dell 30" 4k Oled Announced CES 2016

hehe, someone complaining about glare.

Honest to god if you were going to spend 5k on a screen for gaming, spend some money on lighting and or high quality black out curtains for the ultimate experience.

I'd prefer to spend 5k on a screen without a blurry as **** anti glare coating that effectively reduces the image quality than be able to game without bothering to close my curtains or dim the lighting in the room.

Only place anti glare coating has is work screens/any screen that will be used outside, phones, laptops, tablets, etc. Uber gaming rig, crystal clear no coating monitor and make a room for gaming in that won't provide glare to begin with.

Yeah. I'd like to think that OLED screens will be glossy or at least very low haze as a general rule. Certainly none of this grainy rubbish, otherwise it kind of spoils the experience. :p

The new Dell monitor and the new 13 inch Alienware OLED model is very exciting news and as others have said, the start of things to come. Given the huge investment LG and others are making in plant OLED is coming one way or the other and I'd wager that by CES 2018 - 2 years from now - we'll see many models filtering down to end users. Other technologies won't disappear overnight and the first generation or two of OLEDs will undoubtedly have their teething troubles, but its coming.

TVs will lead the way, as will tablets and probably laptops. There's talk of Apple switching lock, stock and barrel to OLED (there's even rumours of Apple developing their own variant of it).

I wouldn't get too hung up on the price: first to market is always hilariously expensive. Remember the first consumer grade 4K panels two or three years ago? They were limited to 30hz, were made up of two panels side by side and cost almost as much as the Dell OLED.

I'm sure we'll find stuff to nitpick yet.

Even OLED has its haters.

Well when he said OLED, 4k, 120hz and adaptive sync i think he is spot on nothing will surpass this for a while until they start to get it moving with goodies like 21:9 and HDR. The ultimate in IQ (Personal perf) is the LG G6 because it is glossy.

This week LG revealed the first look at their ultra-premium series of products by the name of LG Signature, and within this collection, the LG G6. The LG G6 is one of two 2016 4K OLED TVs the company is showing off with Dolby Vision inside and a picture-on-glass design. The LG G6 works with an extremely slim 2.57-mm OLED panel up front, attached to the glass sheet that sits in front of it. LG says that this attachment is being done here for the first time, made possible by OLED's "revolutionary" self-lighting technology, requiring (therefore) no backlight.

I need picture-on-glass because frankly thanks to the below image and the image of the Dell in here you can see what matte v glossy is like with perfect black. And frankly i still find perfect black with matte annoying look at that LG shine!

Sorry to throw a spanner into the works, but the Dell is actually glossy. It has what seems to be a highly effective anti-reflective surface similar to the UP2715K. But it's in no way matte.

That's a great thing. The UP2715K has a fantastic AR surface.

Give it another 2-3 years I can upgrade to my dream! 144hz/UHD/OLED :-) I also like glossy monitors, shame about glare sometimes though.

We might be waiting until end of year or more for GPUs, hopefully there will be something sub-1K by then?

I remember I was one of the first ones to get the dell 2405 biggest lcd to date up to that point and I think I paid 1100~usd at the time for that and thought it was expensive.

Hmm it did look matte! Hopefully it really is glossy it will be amazing. As soon as the winter nights set in i can notice the black levels on my Eizo drop off and it is currently the highest rated monitor for contrast and blacks bar the OLED.

In the summer i simply use blinds or curtains, Totally worth it though this beast is basically the Eizo on steroids apart from the refresh rate then? And it is $5000 swoosh lol. It is gonna be another year but the good thing is OLED rocks so much even budget brands should be great no? The Blu-rays did the same thing the recent UHD Samsung one is $399 the previous first gen Panasonic was $5000 quite the profit margin.

Are Dell really known for pushing out new tech?

This 120hz sounds just like idle speculation, based on it might have DP1.3. Well of course it's going to have 1.3, it's just time. I always assumed Asus would be first to 4K120.

They will sell this to professionals, or hospitals and such based purely on colours & blacks. I wouldn't expect the rest of the spec to be anything fancy?

Eh, didn't realise I had read that on pcm.info, ignore last post. :o

I was trying to find a tweet I heard about where the 120hz was confirmed but I assume you already saw it.

It still hasn't been 100% confirmed, and by that I mean somebody with deep knowledge of the monitor (not marketing etc.) and how it would be achieved. I am in communication with the right people at Dell to get these answers though and will update as soon as I know for sure.

It looks really nice and I want that arm, but the price is a lot. For this money I would want 100Hz, HDR, FreeSync and a ten year warranty.
