New Dell 30" 4k Oled Announced CES 2016

HI there

Being speaking with DELL and they were planning to only trial this in USA, but they have agreed to try and work with OcUK in the UK and expect to retail it with us for around £3599.99, though I am pushing them to bring that retail price down to £2999.99 here, we expect to get 10-20pc as sales are expected to be rather low in the first year until it becomes more mass market and cost come down.

But I know even at this price they will sell, albeit in small volumes but people will buy them. :)

Really good news. Well done for your efforts.

Gibbo, since you have a contact at Dell maybe you can wrangle the info out of them about whether the mini-Displayport is 1.3 or not. That is the fulcrum upon whether this monitor is a success rests upon.

+1

Still no news from my side BTW. Even though the message has been forwarded to about 12 different people.

Must mean there really is lifespan issues still for them to turn it on and off with a proximity sensor!

Yep, wouldn't touch the first generation of these with a barge pole. Let others be the guinea pigs, iron out the kinks, improve the reliability/lifespan, then in a few years these will be ready.

It will come with a 3yr warranty, and Dell are good with door to door swapouts so this wouldn't really be a big issue surely.

Yeah I am not at all worried about that.

Just wouldn't want the OLED to degrade after 3 years and be left with something that looks like a TN!

Is this really the only 4K120 out of CES?

Surely there's little market for it currently? Hell, there's not much choice under £500 with 60Hz at the moment.

Not many people can drive 4K/UHD let alone surpassing 60fps frequently enough for 120hz to be useful.

I would expect 120Hz 3840x2160 to trickle through 2017.

Is this really the only 4K120 out of CES?

Yes, but more are sure to come later this year when GPUs can actually support that with DP 1.3. Of course supporting and running well are two different things. ;) I suspect IFA might be more exciting for that sort of thing later on in the year.

While it's true that the GPUs won't be available until much later in the year, is that really stopping them announcing the monitors ahead of time? Plenty of premium models have had year+ gaps between unveil & launch.

I suppose not, although it is quite common for some of the more interesting models in a manufacturer's release schedule to be shown off after CES. In fact quite a few of the models shown off at CES this year were announced a few months back.

I'll do everything I can to get one, of course. Short of buying one myself that is.

DSR on a bigger scale ;)

It has to be 120hz to justify the cost over the 55 inch LG OLED at £2200. This one for even 3K would be retardo. First gen OLED is first gen OLED, The difference is size and likely inputs with DP over HDMI. I'll be mighty surprised if Dell think people would buy one at 60hz over the LG tv. So i think there is going to be some sauce somewhere. I wish they would hurry up though and confirm the operational hz.
