New Dell IPS S2721DGF 165hz gaming monitor

Greetings to everyone!

Long story short, I got the S2721DGFA (emphasis on A, manufacture date nov 2020) like 3 months ago and some days ago I noticed it developed a stuck pixel (green) today Dell sent me what looked like a refurbished S2721DGF (no A, as in, not the Eu version, I assume. Manufacture date Agu 2020 but with a sticker REV01) as a replacement. Initially, the A version had a very strong yellow tint to it, I had to adjust. The REV01 looks almost perfect out of the box color wise, I don't think I even need to take it out of standard mode and go into RGB (custom) but it has backlight bleeding and the black is not exactly uniform, the bottom right corner being the most noticeable. It's quite weird that the A, which was manufactured AFTER the REVO1 was suffering from a yellow tint. Anyway.

Any advice of what I should do, should I bother asking for another RMA or perhaps attempt to demand the RVO2? I heard from some people on reddit that said revisions has good uniformity.

Also, last question, I had freesync and, again, I read that having freesync doesn't let the monitor 'really' go above Fast, even if you can choose the options the max response you get is Fast. I'm not sure if I even need faster than that, I mostly play MMORPG's, but would like to hear a few opinions on this. Thanks!

Probably need to dial down Saturation a bit.

In general how are you finding the monitor with your rx6700 now its setup

It ticks most of the boxes I want from stand design and size to conections ect

and going up from my old trusty AOC G2460PF 1080p 144hz she now have a couple of shadows and the dead midge in the layers annoys me

I'm really enjoying it now. It's a great pairing with the 6700 XT, too - very smooth at 165hz.

And? Results?!

really like it had to change the colours a little but everything seems good they can be very vibrant and both sims and planet zoo look excellent ( the girls games )

blacks are well very black which suprised me was expecting to have issues but then going from my old panel its not a suprise

I am having flickering pixels on the left of my monitor. Anyone else have this with this monitor?

I can make it less noticeble if I run at native resolution and YCbCr444 rather than RGB. It seems to be an issue with the DP or HDMI. My graphics card is a MSI GTX 1660 and I think both are 1.4. Anyone got any thoughts?

Had mine delivered last week and overall I'm happy with the monitor however I have quite an annoying IPS glow in the 2 bottom corners which can be quite distracting especially when playing games like Metro.

Not sure if I should ask for a replacement or just send it back and get a VA panel. I seem to be more sensitive to IPS glow than smearing as had a number of VAs before this and smearing never really bothered me!

Exact same reason I sent my LG 27GL850 back, it was awful. I can't imagine playing something like RE:Village or The Medium on an IPS monitor , I honestly don't believe one exists that won't make those games look a milky grey mess

Well that's already a known downside to IPS panels: poor blacks. But, it makes everything else look 100% better than any other panel out there.

Panel wise in my mind it goes TN < VA < IPS (PLS). IPS panels will give the best viewing angles and colour reproduction. VA will give better contrast. TN gives good response times. Don't forget the panel lottery though, some units may just sadly be worse than others - especially for IPS glow. Most pro-grade monitors are IPS and most true 10bit panels are IPS. VA panels usually have a slower response time compared to IPS panels so you may notice more motion blur on VA. So it's a bit of "what do you want" from a monitor. For me, I take the slightly weaker contrasts and go IPS. Better colour, better response time, better viewing angles, better wide colour gamut. I'm speaking very broadly here though. Each to their own.

We've reached a point now where IPS is so responsive I'm not really sure why anyone would buy a TN panel anymore, unless you really, really wanted to save the money. VA there is an argument for of course, I have both IPS and VA but TN ...just yuck.

After playing around with the settings and adjusting my brightness & contrast, I've managed to reduce the amount of IPS glow enough to warrant me keeping the monitor.

I used the same settings as the Hardware Unboxed review and so far so good.

I am used to having my brightness a lot higher (currently set to 63%, contrast at 80%) but after a while, you get used to the reduced brightness.

I managed to snag this at £320 so I'm very happy with it.

I expect if you one of those people who are used to high levels of brightness its going to be tougher to deal with, I routinely use brightness below 30 on all monitors I use, higher levels of brightness will increase the glow.

Ultimately some prefer VA for the reasons you give, it seems you are a VA guy and its probably best you switch it out.

well i'm also returing mine , it is got ips glow , it is revision A02 Manufactured Mar 2021 , can some one please tell me the steps how should i request a return ?
i took some pictures you can see it

Problem with pics is they dont reflect what it looks like locally, when I took a pic of my screen ona dark background it looks significantly different to looking at it direct (pic is much greyer than black with amplification of any glow/reflection etc.) It increases exposure.

Yeah that is right, well last night i was doing some research for an alternative but it seems all the ips panel sufferers same ips glow, i don't know what to do , it seems i will just keep it

FYI this means TN is greater than VA which is greater than IPS - you made me question my purchase two days ago of an IPS! Then reading your post it's clear you mean IPS is generally your top pick.

I'll see how this one arriving from MM is. I have high hopes as I'm coming from a BenQ TN 1080p, which has been great for gaming with its high refresh rate for many years now, but lacking in colour accuracy and general pretty picture-ness.

I'll likely need a new GPU extra quick though given my 980Ti and this new one is 1440p.
