New Dell IPS S2721DGF 165hz gaming monitor

I have a dell s2721dgf and recently I started to notice something that really irritates me now.

I don't know if it's normal, but I've noticed color refresh is not fast enough I guess. Let's say on dust 2,if you look at a blue door where the rest of the building is sand colored.

Moving to the sides fast makes it do sone sort of ghosting that's really annoying. It's like the monitor doesn't update the display fast enough.
If I turn around quickly it's like it doesn't update fast enough, and building or other objects can be stretched and the colors being washed out together.

In doom 2016 I have the same color issues, but not the other one.

In gw2 I have neither of these problems, but instead the whole image can have micro stutter. If there's a tree in the background and I turn fast then then I can see 2 trees.

I don't know if it's common for monitors like this. To comparison i dont recall my TV did this.

I know it can be an overdrive issue, but sadly you can't turn it off. I can only choose between fast faster and extreme.

I have g sync on, v sync on, fps capped a little under 165. I don't know what to do. I updated my GPU drivers lately and dont recall if the driver did it.

Any suggestions?

Try the lowest overdrive setting ('Fast' IIRC), this should be best.

EDIT: I didnt have this problem all the time, and to be honest it came after the latest 466.77 nvidia driver. So its probably a problem with the driver, as I havent noticed it before the update.

You can see how serious it is here. I have no motion blur or anything on.

**** sake guys anyone who can have any tips? Its getting worse and worse.

I used DDU to delete everything, then I reinstalled everything.

You know you can have that feeling where even scrolling smooth with your mouse on webpages and how smooth it feels.
Its stuttering here even though my monitor shows its 165 hertz.

I am getting ghosting from text moving up and down and it more looks like 30 fps when scrolling.

It must be something software related, cus I just got this problem recently.

I tried to remove Dell drivers as well. Everything. No luck.

Turn v-sync off and remove your frame cap would be my first suggestion although I’m guessing you’ve already tried that at this stage?
Secondly, is the monitor definitely running at 165hz?
Thirdly, are you using the DisplayPort input?

Tried v sync off and removal of framecap (framecap doesnt work in Nvidia control panel, so havent really tried with it on).
The monitor is saying it runs 165hz
And yes, I am using the displayport input.
Its like the monitor cant refresh fast enough and making extreme ghosting on colors, and also like tearing it.

Look at the color updating here:

**** I think my g sync doesnt work...

I tried turning it off and went into CS GO... It made no difference at all....

Which seems to mean that my G Sync probably no longer works. That explains why I get tearing in colors.

Can G Sync just suddently stop working?

Edit: I also tried to turn on v sync in game... Still not working... V sync doesnt even work.

What the hell is going on.

To be truthful I can’t see any flaws on that video - I also watched your previous video and struggled to see any issue. Now I’ll be the first to admit that I’m probably I’m not the most sensitive when it comes to such things so if I can’t see anything it’s more than likely just me. Furthermore the YouTube compression doesn’t help matters.
As for gsync I’ve not heard of it just failing before. Plus, there is no hardware module in this setup as with native gsync monitors - in this case it’s all software on both the graphics card and the monitor which makes it even less likely I’d have thought.

My two cents worth is just return it if you’re not happy with it - that’s what I did. It’s a fair bit of money to shell out on something that doesn’t perform to your expectations.

The only other advice I can offer (which again you have probably already checked) is make sure it’s running at full native resolution and hz within nvidia control panel and also make sure it’s running in 10bit RGB colour mode, again within NCP.

I have used this monitor since february and really like it. It is something that has happened within the previous days.

I've tried g sync working on the monitor that is why I notice its wrong. I know its hard to watch from a youtube video,

but when I turn around all the colors gets washed together, the screen is slighty stutering when I am turning my mouse, and the picture can tear even with v sync on.

If im for an example are looking at a pole and turn fast it gets torn in two. AFAIK that is screen tearing and both g sync and v sync should eliminate that.

I tried to run G sync and move fast in Halo, wheres theres some heavy color ghosting. No screen tearing just ghosting.
I turned AMD Freesync off while being in game. No change. No screen tearing or anything, like it was still the same.

I am sorry I am so annoying updating on my problems, but I noticed a new thing.

When using Chrome, when I open a tab it has screen tearing for like ten seconds, then it stops and has no screen tearing.
Changing tab gives me screen tearing again for about ten seconds. It repeats every time I change tab.

It sounds like a software issue. Might reinstall Win10.

Private for me too

I can't say I can see anything there, might just be the video. Is the problem that the colours aren't consistent for you when you're rotating at speed in 3rd person view?

You can kinda say that. It's like they are ghosting and the colors are screen tearing when there's a big difference in colors.

I know it's something that has suddenly changed, because I get all dizzy and headaches now which I didn't get few days ago.

I get that queezy feeling from the video, but I think that's just because it's the constant spinning round and round! I'd not be doing that in game, personally, so I'm not sure I'd detect the same issue.
