New Dell IPS S2721DGF 165hz gaming monitor

Just an update. Still fighting with Dell on getting the monitor replaced. They are saying all light bleed/IPS glow is part of the design on the monitor. I wouldn't mind so much but even in a mildly lit room, the glow is bad in the bottom left corner where is washes everything out.

Where you within 14 days of purchase when you requested the RMA?

Just off the phone with a manager. I'm stating the black screen flickering as an issue so they are requesting a replacement and awaiting approval. I can replicate the black screen flicker easily when using display port (I basically can't use display port at the moment due to issues, but I believe it could be gpu related). The manager said it will be more likely to be accepted than to fight for backlight bleed, but has warned me that a replacement can have worse backlight bleed.

That's significant because you can request the return within 14 days without giving a reason. The mistake you have been making is negotiating with them when they are actually legally obliged to accept the return.

My fear is accepting a return & refund and then ordering a new one and having to wait a month for a new monitor.

It’s interesting how this issue seems a bit of a lottery and not just with this DELL monitor or even IPS panels. I was watching a review of the new Samsung G7 VA monitor where the reviewer was returning it due to terrible backlight bleed. It’s only OLED that does not have this issue. (i.e. it has no backlight) I was watching a YouTube vid on how you “may” be able to fix/improve this problem by 1) slightly loosening screws to remove unwanted pressure on screen or 2) rubbing screen with some pressure using cloth can also improve it.

Buying my tv last year was so much easier haha. Went to store, got the LG B9 on sale, got home and put it on the stand and that was it.

I had a Samsung 27" curved monitor last year and didn't like it so returned it. The curve of that monitor has put me off all curved monitors.

Yep, I did the same last Xmas time with a 65” C9. The terrifying part was me and a mate lifting this super thin/fragile panel up onto it’s wall mounting bracket and preying we would not damage it!! :)

OLEDs are are just super amazing technology.. *drools over image quality and TV’s ability to even process a crap source into a decent image

well i bought my Dell U2515h and its been perfect when it arrived... i am hoping my 2721dgf will be the same :)

as somebody mentioned before you can always return it during first 14 days if its really bad.
Ips glow is a thing that every ops panel has.. backlight bleed is not. i am more worried about the dead pixels

Anyone that ordered after 1st Oct received their monitor yet - Mine's still showing 21st Oct delivery (as it has since the order was placed) but had not communication at all from Dell as yet other than the initial order confirmation.

What's the black screen flickering issue? I've had this monitor for less than a week and only today has it started to literally turn black for a second and go back to normal. Has happened quite a few times now. Is this what you're talking about?

On a somewhat related note, I have that issue on my LG 4K monitor with USB-C. If I use DP or HDMI it's fine. With USB-C, it flickers black for 2 seconds every 30mins. Very bizarre.

I wish I could see this monitor in person, or any decent high refresh 1440p display tbh. I'm so intrigued by how the high refresh rate performs but not sure about the ppi.

I'm currently using a 4K LG 27UK650 and I've been a MacBook Pro user for years, so having become used to 'retina style' screens I'm afraid I won't be able to get past the lower ppi of the Dell and I don't have room for two 27" screens.

What is this like for non-gaming stuff compared to a 4k screen? 1440p scaled on the LG works O.K. for gaming with my PC but its a slightly soft image and limited to 60hz obv so I don't get a true experience vs a decent 1440p display. Anyone using one of these alongside or even replaced a 4K display with one of these and if so, any comments?

I had that exact monitor up until a few months ago (also a Mac user), then moved to a 32in 4K LG monitor. (LG 32UL750). I have the 32in 4K and Dell next to each other. Definitely a sizeable drop in PPI, but you get used to it. If you sit at a reasonable distance, it's not horrific. I haven't had a chance to test it on games yet, I can't wait. I wouldn't let it hold you back from a great high refresh IPS monitor.

To be honest I believe it's my GPU (XFX RX480 8GB) that I think is causing it when using DisplayPort, when using HDMI it's perfectly fine. I had the same issue when using a Samsung C27HG70 (used 2 of them) and only happens in certain games.
