*** New Design 2012 iMac 21.5" & 27" ***

Win 7 / CentOS... i haven't spent much time with OSX

I've always fancied them, but been a bit put off because they always seemed a bit overpriced. Plus I used to like gaming quite a bit, but that desire has faded drastically. Also, lack of reasonable SSD options has held me back, this fusion drive - i like.

This model, despite going up in price... with the calibrated screen seems not unreasonable any more and I want the ease of use and integration now at home... still won't get away from windows - need it for work. But at least I can just relax with computer use a bit more at home now, that I like.

The wallpaper looking down on earth to the horizon... that pic looks phenomenal on this screen!

Went into the store today to have a look, as Apple will likely be replacing my machine for a new one, due to my current 2011 27 having colour uniformity issues and crap Wi-Fi (I've had enough of the constant repairs and swaps that need to be performed).

Must say, pretty much...as expected. The display is massively less reflective than its predecessor, but aside from that, there aren't a huge number of perceivable difference. I'd expect it to be far quieter, however, and do really hope that it will be.

Shame that my replacement can only be a standard spec, as I'd love to have a Fusion Drive, i7 and 680MX, but that then becomes a £2200 machine, which is far too much money...:O

IF you go back a few posts you will see my 2010 iMac went pop and they offered a replacement model (2012) they then let me pay the difference to re max it out.

Was a bargain =)

He will have to make his pop that isn't down to user's fault.

Yours was the extreme, which was also down to faults of the repair people as well. If they fixed it perfect first time you wouldn't have had your offer.

He also said he has had many repairs and swap outs already.

I found the trick, is to make it impossible for them to carry out any other alternative other than a replacement.

I did see your post, it is tempting...! Will definitely get the 1TB Fusion Drive at least.

I don't know how much quicker the 680MX is than the 675MX, however my 6970M is more than fast enough for my requirements, as is the i5 2400 that this machine currently has (no need for HT), so I'll probably stick with the stock configuration for the rest.

Yeah, I'm on my third iMac (fourth if you included the one that came with a cracked display), and had two repairs beforehand.

680mx is about 60% faster, at higher resolutions like the native resolution of the iMac due to its higher vram.

Certainly not under all circumstances where that VRAM isn't being used though...! That said, I'm now pretty much decided, 680MX 2GB, 1TB Fusion Drive, but as before, i5 rather than i7.

Im finding it too big to work on photos with! #firstworldproblems

Incredibly fast though. I have the i5 27" stock spec, with only the fusion added.

My 2.4Gz C2D PC with 4gb RAM would take about 10-15 seconds to refresh a 22mp image when moving the noise reduction slider in Lightroom. This machine does it in around a second (worst case). So I can pretty much move the noise reduction slider in real time!! Have yet to try a massive image export yet... that will be the true test!!
