*** New Design 2012 iMac 21.5" & 27" ***

Please say your getting the 1Tb Fusion Raymond?

Yes, minimum but toying with the idea of 3TB, not sure how useful that would be.

And do you need to physically add Apple care into the purchase when buying in HE or does Apple Care automatically apply because you are buying it through HE? My brother in law is getting it for me and he is a lecturer.

Apple care vs warranty is different.

Through he you get one year AppleCare then 2 years normal warranty.

You can purchase an upgrade to three years AppleCare but that only really adds phone support.

Right, so without buying the Apple care it comes with 3 years warranty as standard through the HE, as opposed to 1 year outside the HE?

Correct, as long as bought online or over phone.

The only difference is when buying in-store, even with HE discount - you don't get the 3 year warranty by default. Most stores will honour it, but you have to pester them for it.

Telephone support

FYI - warranty confirmation - look at point 10.1.1 - http://store.apple.com/uk_edu_5001196/browse/open/salespolicies#topic-10

Also note details when you expand the applecare option when going through the order process:

Telephone support doesn't really help me anyway....there is always the internet, that is only for software problems. I am more concerned if something hardware breaks and I need something fix which costs money.

So no need to add Apple care ! £115 saved

Yeah - applecare is pretty much the "noob helpline".

While I'm a Mac noob... I'd still rather figure things out for myself as I did for other OSes.

Would a 27" iMac with this spec last me roughly 3/4 years:

3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
1TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5

Also wondering if I can upgrade the ram myself at some point in the future if needed?

I am still undecided on how to pay for this...Do I save for 3-6months, go for finance or get a 0% credit card for it. Damn, I just want it now! :D

I'm looking at purchasing exactly the same spec iMac. I'm thinking that at that spec it would suit me for the next 3-4 yrs, however it depends on what your going to use it for.

The RAM on the 27" model is user upgradable unlike the smaller 21" model.

Yeah, this I will utilise the upgradability of the ram if needed during it's lifetime. I going to be using for a lot of general stuff, casual gaming/development and potentially picture editing further down the line.
