*** New Design 2012 iMac 21.5" & 27" ***

I am thinking of getting the top end iMac with

i7 update
680m
3TB Fusion
(Upgrade the ram myself)

I am just worried about just how expensive that will be!

Should be able to work it out from the Mac mini/previous models.

Top 27" model: £1,699.00
i7 upgrade: £80-240 (i7 -> better i7 is £80 on the Mac mini, £240 on the MBPr)
680M: £100?
3TB Fusion: £300? (1TB Fusion is a £200 upgrade on the mac Mini)

To summarise, start preparing your anus now.

I will be keeping an eye on the store today, will be picking up the top 21.5" ($1698/£1104) with no upgrades (for the missus) and also ordering the top 27" ($2199/£1430)with upgraded gfx ($165) and the 1tb fusion drive ($165) (though I may sneak on the i7 upgrade as well ;) $220)

My only problem is that we are flying back to the UK for ten days next week so the delivery delay on the 27" is worrying me - think I may just get I all delivered to work.

Prices for upgrades taken from http://www.expercom.com/product_detail.html?p=873049 with 10% added on for tax - seems to work for the US to AU prices.

Hardware
3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
3TB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
Magic Trackpad
Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (British) & User's Guide (English)
Apple Battery Charger
Accessory Kit

Just Ordered that - 3% cashback with Quidco (fingers crossed)

£2,123.99 all in

Couldn't justify another £200 for the fusion.

Hoping that Bootcamp will work with the 3TB drive in the near future.

:D

Going to upgrade to 32GB myself... thankfully the 27" has user-serviceable RAM slots

It was nice to find out the "MX" series chips are actually just down-clocked desktop variants :D

Does anyone know if the 3TB Fusion drive has more capacity no the SSD side than the 1TB?

I don't think it does... they're just charging an extortionate price for a 3TB drive on top of the already overpriced 128GB SSD lol

Meh... I still wanted it as I plan to keep this for quite a while and prefer internal storage wherever possible.

I have like 15TB external storage....1TB internal is fine, I don't put much on it apart from OS and software.

I have my 18TB centos fileserver... but I still like having a decent amount of internal storage too. Especially with this machine... I want ease of use & just not having to worry about any balancing for the life of the machine.
