New essential Android apps thread

Not yet. VISA have just announced that KitKat's card emulation for NFC payments will be supported so it's not long now before we can natively make payments.

Is there a good app that makes uploading pictures and generates BBCode?

At the moment I can upload to say imageshack or imgur easily enough but then putting it into a public folder or created BBcode links with thumbnails has proven to be quite tough.

Imageshack is pants.

IMGur has a dedicated app with sharable link with BBcode.

I upload to my own webspace and have Clipper+ section with BBcodes predefined and I just edit in the URLs into one of those and copy the lot for forum posting.

Pushbullet has been busy and now has a Windows app that allows you to send anything to anything with Pushbullet.

Agree. My biggest gripe with Newstand is that hitting "refresh" doesn't seem to do much. I leave home each morning having hit refresh hoping to be able to read my marked news items on the tube. Then when I open a news site I find it still only has news that's a day old.

I do prefer its layout though!

I've been tinkering a bit with activesync at work and set it up on my note 3 - trouble is the performance of the stock kk email app seems sporadic at best - calendar and contacts are dealt with perfectly (and instantly) but I've been getting delays with sending and receiving emails - something I have not been getting on the iPad I also setup to test.

I've currently got touchdown setup for my emails as it gets an instant response when sending/receiving emails and have the stock exchange services handling contacts and calendar - not ideal really as other than that I really like the stock kk email client.

Anyone else with exchange setup in their phone - how do you do it?

So now that we're stuck with Newstand, what's a good alternative for reading news/RSS offline? Preferably with an option to update at certain times (ie before I leave the house)

Google Now Launcher is now available in the Play Store for Nexus and Google Play Edition devices.

If you'd previously side-loaded it yourself as I had, you'll still need to update it via the Play Store to the new version. It might prompt you but I had to go and find it myself, it didn't show up in the My Apps list for some reason.

Thought it wasn't my sort of thing but Muzei is great: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nurik.roman.muzei

The amount of extensions for it already, it's insane. I'm using a combination of:
MultiMuze: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.getgoodcode.multimuze
Music Extension: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplecity.muzei.music

So everytime when a song plays it changes the background to the album art, and then defaults to another extension when the music is stopped/paused. Gives me some sort of KK music lockscreen :p.
