New essential Android apps thread

Is there an app that can show me details on cell signal, not just my network but others too?

I'm looking to move from Vodafone, probably to Three, but it would be nice if I could somehow log or see what the signal would be like while I'm out and about, just to get an idea.

I know i can (and have got) a SIM and just try it, but swapping about / having two numbers is a pain in the ass.

It does sadden me to see how many installs AV apps like AVG for Android have had on the Play Store. Rather baffling really.

So you saying anti-virus software on phones are pointless? what if you download torrents and other sort of stuff onto your phone? I've had it since i bought my S4 but if it really is pointless and slowing my phone etc then i'd obviously remove it.

Not necessarily pointless; if you're careless, download unsigned dodgy apps and click on pop-ups you see on websites that download/run APKs then an anti-virus will probably be of use to stop damage being done at the last moment. Personally though, I don't do any of that and I know what I run/install on my phone so I have no need for one.

I wouldn't have bothered with AV, and haven't until now, but then MyCo bought Kaspersky as I needed approved AV on my laptop for working at Client.....and found it came with mobile derivative included :)
Seems to be quite innocuous, and certainly haven't seen any harm/impact in having it installed and running on my Note 3

Guys I'm looking for a todo app. Looking for a standalone app (that doesn't require me to sign up for anything) and the option to set a remind when the task is required/due.

Any ideas?

Does anyone use a junk/cache cleaner they can recommend?

I currently use ‘Clean Master’ but found the latest version which has lots of bells and whistles has slowed performance down quite a bit. (Xperia J & MotoG).

is there any such thing as an app that rotates your desktop, because about 90% of things i do on my phone i can do in landscape, would be nice if i did not have to keep turning the phone back round

thanks

I assume you're using the stock home launcher. You will need to use a different launcher for this. Download Nova, then go to Settings -> Look and feel -> Screen Orientation and change to either Auto-rotate or Landscape.

Anyone recommend an app to extend or perhaps prevent battery drain for HTC One X.
I've tried a few even Juice which seemed to not do much.
Don't really want to root.

I always find these "battery saving apps" uses more battery than it saves...

BetterBatteryStats is a handy app on the other hand to find any possible apps that's not letting the phone deep sleep as much, but to be honest the Tegra 3 doesn't really help with battery life anyway...
