I saw it on HotUKDeals and was an instant purchase. The pro version also got an update today from what I've read.

Anyhow, I came in here to ask for music player recommendations as I have been using the google music player but wanted to know other suggestions (free version please).

(On Moto G4 running Marshmallow)

I've used a bunch over the years, but GoneMad is certainly the most robust, especially the smart playlists feature if you have a well curated library.

The Samsung player isn't bad imho, it should be available on app store for free as "Samsung music". I didnt like Google one either.

I've been using the paid for version of Rocket Player:Music for a couple of years. The best one I found after trying out a lot of them.

I've used Llama in the past,and very good it was too,but it hasn't been updated since october 2014,so that's put me off.
Hasn't the developer moved on to something similar ?

I can't think of anything I want in an update from it, so I don't see it being an issue. Definitely an essential app for me. Makes sure my phone is silent and my WiFi turns off when I leave home.
