New essential Android apps thread

I guess it depends what you want it to do? I love 'Inbox' by Google.

Noticed this the other day, navigating and made a phone call -

How handy is that?! I think you must be on Oreo, as I tried it on the Honor 9 and it didn't do it.

I think you've got a lot of vaseline smeared on your screen :p That's Oreo's PiP mode in action.

Email wise, I've long stuck by BlueMail until I recently read that all mail goes through proxy server. They've also got another app called TypeMail that is almost identical - not sure why. Nine seems to now come highly recommended and having tried it a few days ago I think I'll stick with it. Seems very slick, but has a built in calendar and notes functionality that I don't really need.

i wish i knew how to make apps as i'd make the best email app on the market.

almost every email app is either ugly, or full or stupid features you don't need. why do we need a calendar function within an email app.

for me i want a clean simple look, with a few customisable options for swiping left and right. then also proper auto replies function, and threaded view. looks good in landscape and portrait view.

i've searched many apps and none are exactly what i want.

Same. I just want a basic client that doesn't look like something from the gingerbread era on the UI end of things.

BlueMail used to be quite plain and now they're clearly gearing up for release 2.0 that will introduce more clutter (I've been in touch with the devs). I've tried K9 but it doesn't seem to even recognise my domain imap account.

Whilst Nine is a great client, it is a monstrous 68mb. If they could do just a client I'd be onto that ASAP.

I gave up trying to find a decent mail client and moved my Domains email to Gapps so I get all the same features in the Gmail app as I would with a GMail account

Has anyone got the paid for version of 'Lines' icon pack? I've just bought it as wanted to be able to request icons for it as some of mine weren't compatible. I've noticed that the SMS icon on the free version is different to the paid for version. The paid for version has a lot less detail and is just the outline of the speech bubble where as the free version made it look more like a text message. I can only request icons for certain apps, rather than all the ones I'm missing too.

nope as it's every single call. it's a low pitch sound approx every minute. sounds like a bumpbump. it's annoying as it's some what similar to the call waiting noise, though not as frequent, so when it plays i pause to check my phone.

Minute minder? Can't remember whether the settings will be in sounds or the phone settings.

Edit: it's in the phone settings on my Galaxy Note 4

My Nexus 6P has a Call Waiting (During a call, notify me of incoming calls) menu entry in Dialer>Settings>Calls>Additional Settings>Call Waiting.

Minute minder and the equivalents aren't call waiting. They're a simple audio reminder that a minute has passed on the call.

Yeah sorry. Rushed to type out that reply and didn't even see your update from one post earlier. What OS is this btw?

It's called Minute Minder on Samsung but is also on some other phones as well. I may be called Minute Beep or similar.

Good to see that FB Messenger Lite is finally officially available in the UK. Gets rid of a lot of the unwanted bloat (for me anyway).

Just noticed it supports calling now, so I have no reason to keep using the bloated version. So far the lite version is working without issues and it uses a 10th of the storage space compared to the full version.

Never knew about this so just started using it.
So far so good, the stories section of the normal version was annoying me so much and I'm glad it's no longer available on the lite version.
Have also stopped using the Facebook app itself and just go through Chrome instead.
