New essential Android apps thread

Can anyone reccomend an RSS reader with push notifications? Ideally with a companion widget if possible...but notifications asap is the priority

EDIT -

RSS Junkie widget won't work, and I can't find how to change the notifications to once an hour which is ideal.

LinkedIn Pulse seems to be the best option? I've no interest in LinkedIn, but it will allow a check of the RSS feed every hour, and update me accordingly.

Any others I should look at? Really want to use RSS Junkie, but I'm not 100% it will push to me?

Looks like Google are one step closer to releasing the Nexus 5 launcher on the Play Store. Google Search app got updated earlier and now it appears in the Home menu as "Google Now Launcher" on my N4 complete with a new loading screen when it's first run and apparently, a migration assistant when it's first installed to copy your icons over from your original launcher to the Now one.

Just wanted to give a quick update. RSS Junkie is the one to use. It does notify of new items on the RSS by a form of push, so that's great. Just a shame the widget is currently broken, but not the end of the world if it gives you a notification anyway :)

Mozilla will be releasing a launcher soon, based on EverythingMe launcher it looks set to be quite interesting: https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2014/02/05/preview-of-firefox-launcher-for-android/

Edit*
On another Mozilla note, HTTPS Everywhere is now out for Firefox on Android making this -- Android -- now the most secure mobile web browsing environment there is.

Here are my mobile FF extensions:

Cannot believe Spotify STILL have not added official support for AVRCP yet to allow song info to be displayed via Bluetooth on a car stereo and to control music from the car or Bluetooth paired controller. Glad that I’m rooted, Xposed has had the AVRCP module for Spotify for ages now.

When the official devs won’t do something and generally be lazy about it, turn to the fan community who do a better job 99% of the time.

This is amazing news. Exactly what I've been waiting for.

If anybody uses Twitter there is a new app called Talon that's really quite awesome. It's the best Twitter app I've used anyway. It's fairly new so might seem light on features but it gets updates regularly and it only £1.26(I think?).

Do most of you use the official Twitter app?

I've still not found anything even remotely as good on Android as Tweetbot on iOS, if only other app developers had such skill. :(

I did use the offical Twitter app for a while on iOS while they updated Tweetbot for iOS 7 and it is a lot better than it used to be at least.

*must not buy Nexus 5 or Note 3, grr*

The official app has no real issues?

It's mostly niggling issues, admittedly, but when you're used to Tweetbot you notice them. In fairness I've not tested the latest versions of the official app on Android so maybe it would do the job nicely. I just wondered if people had any alternatives, I saw Talon mentioned above but that doesn't look all that great.

Talon has been the nearest I've got to Tweetbot, but it's still a country mile behind really.... really do miss Tweetbot, but that's it from iOS.

Falcon Pro here too. What does Tweetbot do that others don't?

It's not a features thing, it's just so brilliantly designed, works superbly and is great to use. It's the single best app I've ever used on any platform, it's that good. I've seen many people say similar things, Android users or otherwise, perhaps you just have to have used it for a while. The latest official Twitter app on iOS certainly wasn't poor in comparison though, so hopefully the Android one is just as good, I'd get on fine with it.

Just deciding what to do when it comes to getting the actual phone itself, S4 wasn't to my liking... N5 looks good, especially its low price. Note 3 is tempting as I'd like a great battery, but it is big...
