New essential Android apps thread

When I set up my outlook email within GM 5.0 the sync frequency didn't allow for push (instant) only on a set time, so for example, it would only check for new emails every 15 minutes (this was the minimum IIRC?)

You need to install the Exchange Services for it to become available.

http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/exchange-services/

install that and then force close Gmail app, then go to add an account and it will show at the bottom as "Exchange (Your work e-mail address)".

Just type in your hotmail details and your done :)

I had done this before installing 5.0 through XDA without knowing what it did having checked my Gmail settings it says " push" so its doing exactly what I wanted and its superb.

I wondered why it was working perfectly for me :p

I was gonna say, My Outlook.com account has 'Push' then xGBHxPegasus said about the Exchange service, which I'd installed the same time as Gmail v5.0 :)

I have tried adding my Hotmail and work accounts to Gmail 5.0 but it just gets stuck at loading when I open the inbox for both or presents me with a blank white screen if left unattended. I have the Exchange Services apk installed, any ideas?

EDIT - ignore, realised the problem.

I've got feedly setup with all my feeds, but I'm yet to find a decent mobile app.

Using Play Newsstand for now.

As someone else said, Greader Pro (worth the upgrade from free) is a solid app. It obviously supports a lot more than the defunct Google Reader nowadays.

Thanks, works pretty well, seems a bit odd Google makes you require another app for push to to work.

I downloaded the more updated 6.5 version however: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/exchange-services/exchange-services-6-5-1520254-apk/

anyone massively angry at go sms pro and the latest update? it's gone from one of the best sms apps to one of the worst. i can't believe how many features they've removed and how ugly it now looks as well. makes you wonder how a business can be so stupid

I'm using the stock messenger from Lollipop. It's clean and it works.

The colour changes randomly for every conversation.

it's the features of go that i wanted though. i use the following regularly:
1. schedule text message
2. private message
3. individual text tones for each contact
4. reminder every 5/10 minutes of unread messages,
5. individual conversation styling for each contact

yeah just read the reviews on play and it's almost only complaints. i'd love to know who signed off that it was ok to remove every feature that go ever had and make it even more ugly. go never was that beautiful but now it's just filth. the padding for instance on everything is so random. yuck

Does anyone know if/how I can get the default mail app to stop syncing to one of my email accounts (my work one) when on mobile data. If not is there a mail app that will do this? I still want to be able to receive personal emails, which is set up through the default app, but not work ones while not on wifi
