New essential Android apps thread

After playing around with the BBC news app, while I like the new UI I'm not sure I like the personalised news feature. It just feels too cluttered and messy.

Hated the new BBC app initially, just seemed unnecessarily complicated compared to the old one, but after using it for a while I mostly like it, only two things I'm unhappy with.

- no 4x1 widget, why.....?
- with the old app I could refresh it and would then know I could read all the stories even though I would be going through areas with no signal on the way to work, but with the new one it often needs to download some of the stories as I select them, even though I've enabled background syncing.

As was I, till I noticed it's awful and pointless. Your phone needs to be connected to the net, so you may aswell just use your phone.

It should be a standalone thing like FB messenger. :(

it can't be until whatsapp becomes cloud based which may never happen. it amazes me the price fb paid for what i consider to be the worst messaging app there is (that gets used as much as it does).

It's great, saves my having to use a derp keyboard on the phone to message people.

I have chrome on both pc and phone and its great being able to send stuff to my phone from my pc but can i do it the other way?

is there an option in chrome somewhere?

for some reason my splashtop streamer has stopped working.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled on both my phone and target pc but still no luck, just constant 'Unable to reach Splashtop servers'

does anyone have any other recommendations for a similar app ?

I was using the free splashtop 2 and was tempted to upgrade to the £3.23 one which also gives remote connection via internet , not just local network, but as cheap as it is, if it's not going to work I'd rather pass.

so any suggestions ?
