Does seem theres something going on - what with microsoft investing in cyanogen and releasing all these apps.
As an open os its totally possible for them to make their own fork of the project and fully replace the OS...

I have 2 x Nexus 5's. I want to copy everything over from one to the new one.
I have had mixed results with Helium & Mobile Go. Very frustrating. My new phone (with no data) is rooted, but my old one (with all the data) is not.

Wouldn't rooting the old one cause me to lose all the data?
Unlocking the bootloader will if you haven't done so already. Rooting itself won't.

I haven't unlocked the bootloader. Would this be required to root?
Usually yes, but the method I posted above will bypass this as it will allow you to root without unlocking it.
