New essential Android apps thread

I need to find a way to download the latest SwiftKey apk (5.0.2.4). Does anyone have any good sites for this please as I'm stumped.

As Google hates the Channel Islands because of some Street View legal battle, they deny access to a great deal of free apps and on all pay-for apps on the Play Store.

I'm trying to setup my MotoG and even though I’ve purchased the full SwiftKey through AndroidPIT it no longer allows me to pick up the app as it appears it’s going for free now.

Any help would be appreciated please!

Have you tried installing apps through the Google play store on a computer using something like hola unblocker to disguise your location?

Tried that, I believe the issue is down to the location of the device you're trying to install the app to. When I've traveled to the UK then there is no issue buying apps when using the device but using my laptop being signed in as my missus (her handset was back home) then it wouldn't allow me. Really is very annoying of Google.

I've tried proxy servers, other people in UK/overseas buying via my account and also Hola after your recommendation (thanks BTW), nothing works.

Managed to track down an older apk version of Swiftkey so that'll tide me over until I go away next.

have you tried turning off gps and cellular signal then proxying into the uk? Alternatively can't you get it on amazon? Although it looks like you have to pay :(

Doesn't come up on Amazon. Will try airplane mode and see if that allows me to go via proxy.

SwiftKey 5.0.2.4, APK copied from my HTC One: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwQJqwBIsTP5RzJ0V3NFcnRhblk/edit?usp=sharing

On the other hand I can't seem to sign in to see the new themes the update bought, comes up with a connection error on both mobile and wifi connection.

Good man, thanks very much!

Update: for some reason I can now buy apps direct from my phone. Seems using your advice Siliconslave and logging into my Google account from 'overseas' it requested I provide a verification code, so for now my phone thinks I'm in the UK (until presumably it updates itself?) Advice VERY much appreciated! Thanks

Essential app for me would have to be Showbox.

Also netflix combined with Hola to access Canadian and American catalogues.

I find Hola much easier than messing about changing the dns settings.

Plus while you can change dns settings when connecting to wi-fi, if you watch netflix out and about using 4g you're stuck with the UK catalogue, but Hola you can access any catalogue you want.

Also recently signed up to spotify which I thinks great. to be honest I used to mess about torrenting music, but spotify is much more convenient. Plus I find I sometimes discover new songs etc on the various playlists. And £2.50 a week is well worth the convenience)

I find piracy nowadays is much more hassle than it's worth (showbox aside as that's actually decent - although I'd always prefer netflix due to better user interface and continous play, better quality etc)

You're in the UK accessing Hola? Is it easily done and does it Chromecast?

Yes I'm in the UK. Do you think I mean hulu? It's not the TV streaming thing I meant.

Hola is basically like a vpn service that's extremely easy to use. I use it for Netflix and YouTube videos that aren't available in the UK. It's basically one click and you can change region for different apps.

So if you wanted hulu you can access it using hola.

Here's a link https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Hola&hl=en_GB

Anyone else having difficulties with the Sky Go app draining the battery? Can't force close it either so had to uninstall. Was using 25% of battery. It appears to be a common issue though after a quick google search.

The latest QuickPic update enables twist with 2 fingers to rotate an image. Such a useful feature and no idea why other apps haven't had this yet.

Yeah it is for viewing images only but you can make it stick using the menu rotate command.
