Happily Mercedes have recognised this - the current C Class has the best interior in its class by some margin and looks fantastic, ipad on the dash aside, and the new E Class is also stunning - better than the F10 5 Series and anyone who knows me will know thats high praise indeed :D

Be interested to see what you make of the Audi A4. Feedback so far is that its from a class above.

Came into thread to read about Focus RS, finds Astra and Merc interior comparisons :p

Looks amazing love the colour :eek:I want one sooo bad :(
Did I hear it has artificial pops and bangs in sport mode? Lol

Made enquiry today at the dealership in Leicester, with half a mind to order a fully loaded one in blue.
Wanted to look in a ST to gauge and remind myself of the interior.

Came away with two issues, the interior is going to be a come down from my current V40 R Designs, plus if you order one now you get it in February ....... 2017!!!!!

Then we went next door to Mazda and both wife and I really liked the latest MX5

Focus RS and MX5 are 2 totally different cars

Really ? I didn't notice
It is actually possible to like two different types of cars..... Easy when both are best in their niches....

The idea was RS for me, MX5 for the wife..... But she is now hooked to the DSG box in her Ibiza Cupra, which I want to replace by December when the warranty ends.

What what of the hot hatches from Audi and Mercedes? Cars that retail at over 40k

Just to weigh in on this debate. I too (given I had the money) would be put off buying an RS3 / A45 / Focus RS because of the feeling that hot hatches are designed to appeal to younger audiences.

This isn't to say that 19 year olds driving corsa VXRs can actually afford to buy these cars, its just a feeling of that's what this segment of cars is designed to appeal to. And to be fair they did, its only the RS3 and A45 that have recently pushed the boat out and made cars that cost as much as decent executive saloons.

Its the feeling that buying a hot hatch, you're choice in car is going to be admired by the kids, which is not what most of us over 30 want. ANd that stereotype (true or not) is going to mean that most people looking from the outside who don't know cars are just going to assume we're a hot hatch VXR yob.

Then of course there's the engine. Buy an RS4 or RS5 and you get a nice V8. Buy a C class saloon or coupe AMG and you too get a nice V8. Buy an A class AMG or RS3 and you get .... a turbo 4 pot.

Yes Mercedes and Audi know that at these price points the RS3 and A45 won't be bought by kids (even though some probably will with finance), and they are trying to do volume and not just luxury.

But because of that stereotype, they just aren't for me (and others) which is where the comment about a lot for a hot hatch comes from.

TBH hadn't looked at that way.... and to be frank, not really bothered what others think or view it as....I like good/nice cars and buy what I like.... despite being the wrong end of my 40's LOL

I think the reason why Ford has toned down the RS a bit more this time was to loose some of the boy racer image.... A long process I guess ;)
You can take the boy out of Essex, but you can't take the Essex out of the Boy. :D

nobody is telling you should to be fair. All of what i've posted was feelings and opinions. There's no facts here. But then again, who buys their car based upon facts ? its whether you like the car and how it makes you feel that counts....

Not everybody shares the "too much for a hot hatch" viewpoint and it appears to be a 50/50 split which is why we have so much debate whenever somebody brings the RS3 and A45 AMG up.

but how can that be a complete hyper hatch review without the A45 AMG, M135i and even the Seat Cupra 290, as I think they've all been shown to be comparable, or even quicker or better-value than either the Golf R or RS3?

It sounds like a wet muffled fart. Why can't manufacturers make such a car with a nice exhaust note any more?

Because the Euro regulations basically made it impossible for manufacturers to include any kind of interesting engine in their hatchbacks?
