*** NEW Fractal Design Case - Coming Soon ***

are you guys installing the PSU with fan down or fan up?

(looks like most people are installing fan down from the pics in this thread)
Will be installing fan down. there's enough clearance at the bottom of the unit and it helps the cables be closer to mobo tray :)

I have received my case, and I am now starting my first ever build!

I could do with some advice with respect to fans.

I bought 2* fractal 140mm and 1 *sharkoon silent eagle 120mm

my plan is to put the two 140 in the top and the 120 sharkoon in the back.

i have already moved the rear fractal fan to the front, so i have two there now.

Does this seem like a good set up?

I am also unsure what direction/orientation I should have the fan cabling, for the rear fan and the two on the top?

hey Demonmirc, where did you get that shelve from please?

Hi, Sorry for delay answering. It's actually from good old Argos. £18.99 I think . Oak effect. Hope that helps.

On another note, has anyone managed to fit water cooling in one of these cases. I'm thinking off water cooling my NB and CPU only but not sure what will fit.

thanks for the reply Demonmirc :)

i will take a look at there site later for some

thanks

can anyone help me on this - in particular I want to know what orientation my fan cabling should be pointing for the fans on the top and rear of the case.

That should be perfect. I have mine the same, apart from I have the H50 with Apache fan as intake at the rear.

I don't know know what you mean by cable orientation, but your fan orientation should be as follows:
  • 2 @ Front = Intake
  • 2 @ Top = Exhaust
  • 1 @ Rear = Exhaust
There are very tiny arrows on the edge of the Fractal fans which indicate air direction. Not sure if this is the same on the Sharkoon but most likely. They're quite hard to notice so look carefully around the edges of the fan frame.

Thank you for your reply gee.

I am sorry I was not very clear, I understand which way round the fans should be facing, what I was wondering about is what direction I should have the cabling for the fans emerging.

E.g for the fan on the back panel I could have the fan cable(wiring) emerging in the top left corner, the bottom left, the top right or the bootom right.

I know that there is not exactly a 'correct' answer for this, but I was curious what other people had done, and I want to know what is going to make things easy for me with respect to cable management.

I have mine coming out of the top right (looking from inside the case). I then routed it over the IO shield and out of the cable management holes at the top, above the CPU. Result = invisible wire. :)

I have mine closest to the motherboard, running along or under the mobo then out to the back through the mobo tray holes. I have the front fan cables running down the hdd cage (wire-tied) and out to the back again where everything's connected.. I'll see if I can grab some pics later.

Looking at building my new system in this case

Anyone fitted a 5870 in this case, on paper it just fits but was wandering if anyone could confirm. Im sure this has probably being covered already so apologise in advance.

can anyone suggest best fans to get to go in this case alongside the 2 that come as standard I was thinking of getting an aditional 2 fans (1 Side and 1 Top)

I got my case today + 2 Fractal 140mm. I used 1 of my previous 120mm fans, tried to use the other but the screw holing it in is messed up, so running 2x120mm at front (intake), 2x140mm on top (exhaust) and 1x120mm at back. will prob get a few more of these 140mm fans for side and bottom intakes, just need another fan splitter.

I'm 99.9% sure a 5870 will fit in this case, lots of room at the end of my 5850

If you want to put a 140mm fan in the bottom of the case, be careful as my PSU (Corsair HX750) is too long for one to fit using the included filter.

Disjunto - thanks for the feedback and so quickly. Looks like i'll be getting this case if they still have it in stock when i come to purchase (this case seems to be extremely popular and i can see why)

I've found the fractal ones are as good as any! Got 1 x 140mm in the base of mine, plus and extra 120mm in the front, I even whacked a 92mm fractal on my graphics card cooler and they work brilliantly, superbly quiet.
