*** NEW Fractal Design Case - Coming Soon ***

I just got the Fractal and it really is a nice case but I need some advice.

I also got the Corsair H50 CPU water cooler and I understand its suppose to go where the back stock fan is.

If I take the rear stock fan, where do I place it? And whilst were on this subject, should I move the front one?

I don't think I will be buying anymore fans btw...

I have just bought the fractal and have an H50. I dont understand, you just leave the rear fan on and screw the h50 radiator to it. Then put another fan on the other side if you want push/pull like I currently have

I know, I just asked this in general hardware. Not much point if it arrived in an old cardboard box, scratched to bits with no manuals and extra bits

edit - Doesnt matter, just ordered a new one :) Should be interesting carrying it home from work on the bus

hope ur feeling strong, they are heavy cases :o

How do the front fans work when the door is shut? Is there a side bit that allows air to be pulled in, if so then wouldnt this leak noise?

The front panel has vents all down the sides and a hole at the bottom for ventilation to the front fans. most the noise seems to come from the 2 massive holes on the top of the case tbh ;)

Why are the two vents on the top of the case bigger than 120mm? Presuming they are 140mm vents, i dont have 140mm fans anyway. I used one screw to screw in a 1900rpm Scythe. The fan controller does a good job of reducing the speed/noise

Are the white fractal fans set at one speed, even when using the controller?

Mine just arrived today and i've got to say the case is damn impressive, feels a lot better all around than any other case i've ever used. The side panels weight a good bit also and with all the sound proofing that comes with i really have high hopes for a quiet system once i get it running.

As the guy in a few posts before i moved the rear 120 to the front and stuck a 38mm panaflo L1A at the back behind one of the new akasa venomous coolers so i'm hoping that will keep it cool enough.

As an off question does anyone know a fan controller which you can put in one of the front bays and does not stop the front door from closing? I don't think the zalman controller i've got is going to work with it.

Hi guys,

I recently bought the R2 Titanium and love it. Completed the build on Sunday and loving how tidy everything is looking with the cable management through the back.

My only issue now is the smell. It's only been on for a few days but our living room is now smelling like Bitumen. It's quite strong and I can kind of feel it in my throat. Feels like it's a little harder to breath - though that could be something else - and have a slight headache. :(

Just wondering how long it's taken to go for many of you guys? I assume it will go fully over time as while we might get used to it I'd like to think that it will go completely. The PC is left on 24/7.

Also, would appreciate your advice on my temps. Using the stock fans and have a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus on the Intel I5-750 with one fan. Machine is damn quiet and my CPU temp is idle around 30c (between 27c - 35c). Not done any stress tests on it yet.

Does that sound ok with the cooler I have and the two stock case fans? I intend to add some more fans soon as I want to overclock my I5. My only concern was whether I'd nailed the AS 5 application or whether it the CPU should be a lower temp even at this point?

I've had mine for 2 months now, and I can still smell the bitumen every time I walk into my bedroom. This is the only time I notice it though tbh, but a timeframe for as to how long it lasts, I just don't know :P

Thanks for that. Do you feel that it reduced in strength at all during those 2 months? Certainly feels quite bad at the moment and in my throat. Hoping it does begin to reduce as it gets out into the air. Got stronger ever since I powered on and heat began generating in the case.

@Disjunto
Strange that you didn't find you could smell it after the build. It's totally filling a pretty big living room here. :(

Had mine for around 2 months now and I dont notice the smell at all. I only really noticed it when building the system and it never really bothered me. Using 6 case fans, 4 intakes and 2 exhauts if that makes a difference. Sounds like certain batches of cases have a stronger smell then others.

i have had mine for approx 2months and i can no longer really recognise the smell. I certainly could for the first few weeks though.

I would also suspect it depends on how hot your case gets inside - e.g if you spend a lot of times playing games (which i dont) then it will surely heat up more and the bitumen will end up releasing more smell.

Ah thanks for confirming that. Mine hasnt been on for long really so hopefully it will reduce substancially. At the moment it's hurting my throat and making me cough though I am quite sensitive to stuff like this. Surprising though as my HTPC is about 4 metres away from me at the moment in a big living room. :|

Good point about the heat. I only have the basic fan config at the moment so the case temp is probably quite high. I'm going to play around with air flow soon to see if I can improve it.

The machine is on 24/7 so hopefully that won't be an issue.

@Unbreakable
I wonder if the improved air flow and thus lower heat could be a factor. Have you had that fan config from the start?
I'm hoping I haven't got one which is worse than the norm. :(

Yeh case is more or less maxed out with fans, not sure if the airflow makes a difference though as I would have thought it would just spread any smell around even more. Could be reducing the heat build up a fair bit though.

I've got 2 R2's, had the first one about 6 months now and the second one about 4 months ...I haven't had this smell you speak of at all.

Then take side panel and give it a whiff man! :D

But on a more serious note, SlingShotUK, the smell has reduced substantially in those 2 months I've owned the case :)
