Found this in my sister's room, doesn't say the percentage of alcohol though.
?
Is it still under warranty?
Doesn't matter about the box.
i think its 3 years - thought you may have bought an extended warranty.
Seems to dry pretty quickly from what I can gather. That nail polish may be alcohol free - smear a bit with paper towel it on some copper (radiator pipe) and see how quickly it evaporates.
We will wait until tomorrow mate, I'll buy some alcohol and paste, want to do it properly and will come in in the future like you said. What alcohol should I buy? There's so many different ones, haven't a clue.We would still need thermal paste, unfortunately - but generic would only cost £2.
Options for tomorrow or today if you're prepared that i might disappear for long periods:
We remove HS - you take photos of HS base and the top of the CPU - i decide if there's enough for HS to be placed back on after CPU re positioning for testing - TBH i expect it to be solid and unlikely.
Or we wait until tomorrow/whenever - pick up some generic paste - we'll use the nail polish remover (but really clean off any residue by buffing surface with paper towel) - and then test.
I do feel a lot more confident now when I'm messing about with the build. Same motherboard or?Yes, TBH, this is probably going to be the ground work for you getting all the skills you need for doing a new build.
Although there is a cheaper alternative we have overlooked - and that would be buying a second hand MB - you could possibly get one for approx £50/£60.
Obviously you don't have access to the MM yet but do you ever buy from the bay?
There's a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H (so a little upgrade) - 3 days to go from a 100% rated seller - if you got it for £70 that would be a good buy.
sounds like you have some thinking to do...
If you did get the second hand board and eventually sold it to your brother - you would certainly be able to offer him very specialised tech support
The better quality board would give a better chance of higher clock or an easier route to a moderate clock.
That reminds me i have a YouTube clip about how to take off the crappy pushpin heatsink that INTEL designed.
Need to find it again. :/
