New Gaming Rig Advice..

I would personally pick gigabyte - better quality, regular BIOS updates and UK RMA - but the board would be £20 more.

I thought you may have picked MSI as you like the look of it as you've picked a Windowed case.

To be honest mate I'm really not to bothered what it looks like, as long as it runs flawlessly then I am a very happy man. My PC is tucked away under my desk anyway so it's never there for me to see it.

7970 - people asking for £70

8Gb DDR3 1600 memory approx. £30 - but memory is going up

i5 3570k - £70

Is that with original packaging though? I have the box for the 7970, just not the other two unfortunately (it has been 4 years).

So there is some re sale value in them then, that could come in handy.

Well lets see what happens tomorrow, motherboard battery has been out now since 4ish and will leave it out until the morning, not expecting any change but I'll keep praying. Then I shall be attempting to remove it from the case. One thing this whole experience has given me is a little more understanding of parts and builds so there is that, would feel a lot more confident building my own PC after this.

I put my most used games on the SSD and everything else on the HDD.

Right, got you! So the stuff on there now would remain on there or get wiped from the format?

Also the s340 case I have picked isn't set in stone, I'm open to recommendations. Just seen that one had good reviews.

Sounds good to me. Anyway, I'll leave you alone now, sure you're wondering if there is an end to my countless questions! I'll report back tomorrow on if I've managed to get my motherboard out.

It's out! Finally..

It's brought the standoffs out with it on a few holes, as predicted the screws are stuck together with the standoffs.

Just having some toast to get my self prepared for what's to come bare with me.

Can we do the out the box boot like this and worry about the risers later? Left the finicky cables in that came with the case, is that ok?

Ideally we would remove the risers - but they're not attached to the case so on theory shouldn't cause a shorting problem.

Unfortunately, you need to remove the finicky case cables - and usb headers etc..

Leave PSU attached, or attach it again.

So what are all the cables that need to be attached?

24 pin (large one) and the 4 pin (marked atx 12v) - the 4 pin attaches just above the CPU to the left.

Did you disconnect the CPU heatsink cables? If you did re-attach.
I dont see a 4 pin? See a 6 pin? (See my motherboard photo)

The CPU cooler is still attached.

Board is sat on my old 7970 box as don't have the motherboard box anymore.
