New Gaming Rig Advice..

OK, use the links i posted previously, if you haven't watched them already, and remove the CPU.

If you have any questions though - ask...

Look good to me, I've reseated it already as I can't see anything wrong but no harm to check.

(Heatsink is the aluminium, copper based lump of finned metal that makes direct contact with the CPU (via TIM) and the fan sits on top to keep it cool (with INTEL coolers).

This - clip shows different methods of applying TIM - we're using the pea sized blob method - it's the first one shown i think.

And this - clip - will hopefully stop you worrying about it not spreading - as it shows how the TIM spreads once pressure is applied to HS.

Right all done and pea size blob in place.
Once you've watched the TIM application clips - reacquaint yourself with installing the HS and go for it. Push in the diagonally opposite pin to the first pin you push in when installing. As it will even out the TIM.

But when you place the cooler on top don't be afraid to press down slightly to make sure its squishes the TIM evenly.

I didn't. The fan is on top now, can't seem to push down the corners though? To get it out i had to screw them anti clockwise going by that video you sent me, I've put them back to clock wise as well and they won't seem to budge.

Watch the video again - you're probably not applying enough force - i had a akasa HS (years ago) and i virtually bent the board in two fitting it.

I even snapped a board in rage with one - but we'll skip over that (it was another third party cooler and an old board i was trying to recycle.)

I've snapped only one other board - an Abit - but it had it coming - the most unreliable board i've ever owned :/

They ain't budging. Does it matter how the fan is positioned at all

Not sure what you mean - re fan postion?

But are you trying to push down with the MB on a box? - as the box may be giving - as in felxing.

Try placing it on a thin bit of cardboard on a solid surface - you may have more luck.

Is it that you can't get even one pin through the MB at all?

Basically is it ok how I've got it installed in the picture above?

Do they look through to you? The fan part of the heatsink moves up and down a little when I pull it. Can't tell if it was like that in the first place.

i need a close up of one pin pushed through.

You should see the slight ridge/notch of the pin that locks it in place on the underside of the motherboard.

Put it this way you shouldn't be able to pull it out (or even move) if you tugged on one corner
