I'm calling it a night mate. Going to boot off and do the rest tomorrow. Just glad we are up and running now..
Thanks for the help again. Got to get hard drive installed tomorrow, cable management (which is going to be a nightmare as my power supply isn't even semi modular), get RAM up to speed and activate Windows.
Should hopefully be straightforward - hoping memory will hit at least 2933 until the update - but would still be pleased with 2933.
Get some sleep - i'll look out for your alerts...

Just a thought, I have a laptop with Windows 10 upstairs and that is also tied to my MS account, could I get a key from that and use it for my PC?

Damn, I've took a photo of the key anyway and will try tomorrow just incase...
Try the web chat - but if you get bogged down ring. I've always found direct communication where you can interrupt at the appropriate points and emphasis others is crucial. Not possible in a web chat. Plus, charm of course...

i would say that you were forced to upgrade (sob story - lots of expense) your system due to power surge that took out your system.
Say that not only did you have to upgrade the majority of your system at considerable expense but it also took out your SDD with your OS on it....
...explain that you have gone to great efforts to try and identify the key from SSD (explain if you feel necessary)...
...and although the licence is tied to your MS account it's technically tied to hardware that no longer exists...
...and i'm a numpty that doesn't keep/track records of my product keys.
Don't lay it on too thick - and keep your answers as short and sweet as you can if in web chat.
