New Gaming Rig Advice..

You make some good points there Plec. I think as it's only going to cost me another 75-80 quid it's worth doing. If it was another 150 or something I wouldn't bother. If I do go ahead with it is it a simple case of swapping the CPU's over like the RAM or would I need to do something else?

You will be returning via the DSR act - so you will have to return it with all the packaging/instructions and probably pay P&P. You usually have 30 days from requesting this.

They will probably sell it onto a discount company or at a discounted price in there warehouse section - depending on packaging.

(i spend £1000s at this company each year - so i never pay anything for returns and sometimes they don't even request stuff back. Obviously they would for a 1600 :))

I mean once I have the 1700 do I just swap them over as well as the fan of course? I don't need to do anything in the BIOS?
Yes, simple swap.

You could clear the CMOS, shut down and install the CPU. Then boot to BIOS and load optimised defaults and reapply your manual settings. Save and exit - reboot. (Belt and braces approach)

I ordered it through...

I guessed - delete :)

This only just started happening..

Last night he was about to go in to a game and his screen went black, pc was still running and monitor still on but nothing showing on screen. Has happened every time we have restarted.

I have reseated GPU incase that was it and checked for loose cables but still happening.

Tried using only a couple sticks of his ram (he has four sticks) but that seemed to just make the PC go in to a loop. Tried my old RAM in his but would just get to windows logo and restart...

Reset the CMOS and reapply tthe settings - take pics of BIOS if necessary.

Try a different cable and/or a different output from the GFX.

Have you tried a different monitor?

Run memtest on the 4 sticks - or perhaps give them a bit more voltage manually and try this first (or both).

Has he experienced any visual artifacts in game?

Right, I cleared CMOS, once I booted it back up it said something about CMOS reset then it rebooted by itself to Windows. I'm doing Windows updates incase that has anything to do with it..
