New Gaming Rig Advice..

Ahhh so in 1440p more of the load switches to the GPU?
Yes - for example had you not been considering a 1440p in the future I would have steered you (if possible) towards the RX 580 or GTX 1060 as this complements the 1080 perfectly well. But the 1070 still gives you extra headroom for future releases.

Are all your settings maxed out - is everything set to default ULTRA? - as i don't have to have aa, msaa on high as i can't tell the difference as the 1440p resolution does the job. To replicate your experience i'll need to have use the exact same settings.

Haha. Performance on DayZ isn't great, people with Intel reporting 60FPS steady in cities and 100 out of cities. I'm getting about 30-40 in cities (feels very choppy though) and about 60-80 outside. Guess they haven't optimised for Ryzen CPU's yet.

Right about to shut down all background apps.

I've set everything to ULTRA and upped AA to smaaxxsdkjkajsa - whatever it is.

Noticed there's a benchmark test so will run that - suggest you do to.

And then i'll try and play - no idea of controls but will see what we get :).

Back in 20...

Note i'm playing at 1440p - forgot to change settings :/ (can do another test tomorrow at 1080p)

It's quite a good game. Not sure I should have approached it in the same style as GTA V but I got the one mission done in Ococo(sp). I killed everyone, laterally. There may well have been some innocents involved - like the lady in the Abe Lincoln hat (weird) - but all the baddies were eliminated, plus the towns folk I was meant to be protecting. But you can't make an omelette without cracking some eggs. Or in this instance killing women, walking in your line of sight, wearing freaky hats.

Benches.

The built in bench test FPS:
  • Average - 45.06 FPS
  • Min - 38.07 FPS
  • Max - 51.35 FPS
Bench CPU usage:
  • Average - 62.2%
  • Min - 49.5%
  • Max - 97.0%
Bench GPU usage:
  • Average - 98.6%
  • Min - 93.3%
  • Max - 99%

Gameplay:

  • Driving like a loon on country roads etc pretty steady 40/45 FPS
  • Driving into Ococo(sp) - dropped to 35 briefly and then settled at 40'ish again
  • Shoot out at the Abe Lincoln Fan club - not much difference - dropped a bit but was pretty impressed how stable the FPS was considering.
Looking at my results it's a very GPU intensive game - and keep in mind i'm running at 1440p. My FPS hardly fluctuated so gameplay was smooth - even though it was relatively low 40FPS average. I would expect my FPS to jump dramatically with a few tweaks and I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Hope this helps (i'll test 1080p tomorrow) - and what we've learned from this is don't wear a big hat when if i'm packing...

You're getting nearly as good FPS as me and you're at 1440p!

Hardly touching my CPU is it...
Nope, which is great.

This demonstrates the power you have in your back pocket for future games that will be optimised towards Ryzen and utilising more than 4 cores. Plus, the present ones too which are heavily CPU orientated and will hopefully get Ryzen optimisation updates - look at the Ashes of the Singularity as an example of what this can do.
Your 1440p speeds will be faster than mine as the AI/game mechanics will be processed faster by your CPU and will compliment your GPU and resultant FPS accordingly.

Thing is mate I don't know what's good and what isn't really so I'll take your word for it! Having watched a few videos what I get seems to be the average for a 1070 so I'm happy, as long as everything is working as it should I'm good :D

Noticed on Wildlands that without V-SYNC I get lag spikes/FPS Drops but with VSYNC on they seem to be very very rare (even though I lose a few FPS).
Makes sense - that's the reason my gameplay appeared smooth. Although my FPS was relatively low it was pretty constant which may explain why it was smoother than i expected it to be - even though no V-SYNC.

When i first looked at the game (2 months ago) i had aa on the second setting (as play at 1440p) and a couple of others on high rather than ULTRA. I know I had consistently higher FPS but I can't remember if it was smooth or not.

As an aside my first run may not have been valid as when i went to put some of the settings back to what they originally the draw distance (can't remember name) was one setting below max. I can't be sure that i had it in or not so i will re-run the test again tonight, if i have time. Not sure how much of an impact it will have as it could be GPU or CPU driven (or even combo) - won't know until i retest. Plus, i may have had it on full in the first test...
