New Gaming Rig Advice..

Ok they weren't on a schedule, turned it on now for weekly.
That may help - as you will have installed a large amount of data, so it will benefit from optimisation.

Once optimised, do a reboot and give the game a whirl when you have time.

Plec, please stop :(
It seems reverse psychology does have its merits - although i don't want a sad Beady in the process.

Back to old tactics (although recent history isn't on my side): Feel good about your present monitor - things could be worse.

Will give it a go.
Nothing to lose - and it can cause issues similar to what you're experiencing - but it's more of an elimination process with the hope of a fix/benefit.

Would you ever recommend overclocking the 1070 or would you not touch that stuff? It's on 1556Mhz at the moment.
Not with your present screen - it would be like pouring a cup of water down a 2.2ft drain rather than a 2ft drain. However, 'if' you get 1440p monitor in the future (did you rig this question? :D) you would see some gains if you clocked your card. I haven't felt the need to yet - but that's partly because i need to re-seat the cooler as my temps aren't great.

What are your average temps? (if i remember yours are great compared to mine - same card.)

Nope, not working.
Well, i scuppered myself with the above clock response...

Ermmm, if you waited you may be able to afford a 27" - although some people find this too big as they have to move their head when gaming (i would hate this). Depends how far you sit from the screen - as mine are the right distance, but i have a deep, large desk.

I've thought of one - a 24 inch 1440p desktop in native resolution will be tiny and you will have to bump up the scale/magnification to read and it causes blurring - which i don't like (not a necessity on larger screens - for me anyway). Having said that you may cope but it will be very small (Games would play in the native 1440p regardless - as you set the resolution within the game)

You're sensitive to stuttering - my bug bear is fuzzy text and images...

I didn't rig it, I swear :D My temps are around 55-60 degrees. Is that good?
Yes, your temps are very good & will easily maintain a clock.

Mine can touch 80 degrees while gaming at stock :/ but this is within tolerance so not bothered. I'm fairly confident that reseating the heatsink will reduce these - but if not c'est la vie (would have wound me up in the past - but hardware is so powerful now.)

I think I'd prefer the 24" but a bigger screen would look brilliant. Something to think about.
Bigger isn't necessarily better - plus it sounds like the 24" may be the ideal for your environment/sitting distance. Some people have jumped to 27" or the superwides and returned them or bought an additional 24" purely for gaming as they hate having to move their head while gaming (as mentioned i don't like this). So really consider your viewing distance when making this decision - e.g. only idiots sit at very front in cinemas..

When you consider back in the day (well my day) - monitors were <14" CRTs, standard (i had a 15" - I paid stupid money for it) so in relative comparison a 24" widescreen at regular desk viewing distance is huge.

I think eventually I will upgrade to a better cooler to get a good overclock out of my CPU but the stock seems to be doing a good job at the moment!

Yeah think you're definitely right, 24 inch is more than big enough for me, 27 is getting just greedy and would probably be a pain on first person shooter a in fact.

Also if I do get this monitor I would run a dual monitor set up, one to watch streams and stuff and the other for the gaming. Is that easy to do and does it have a negative impact on gaming performance?

Defiantly not worth it at the moment - lots of people banging their heads against the wall trying to get decent clocks with high memory stable (32000MHz). You wouldn't see any discernible gains with your use and run the risk of adding instability - even worse lagging/stuttering as this seems to be the main symptom of dodgy clocks.

We'll go for a clock eventually, but we'll wait for a more pliable BIOS - for overclocking - at stock yours is solid. And our main quest at the moment is getting you 3200MHz stable.

Should i be inferring anything from that reply?..

Is your shopping cart still empty? :D

You will a have minimum of 4 cores to spare 95% of the time, for some time come, so you will be fine.

Well.. there are only 3 left in stock... I'm getting scared.
Why? :p

Is it easy to set up?
Very easy.

Easier still if you don't buy one :)

(i forget which method was working - reverse psychology or plain old trying to delay you)

May i ask what is it thats only 3 left in stock ?
A monitor that's apparently on his wishlist - but looks increasingly like it's about to enter his cart. :)

It's a quality unit - i've seen the 27" version and for a TN panel it's colours a very impressive.

Avert your eyes Beady.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £467.09
(includes shipping: £11.10)

Why not go for a 4k monitor ?
Are you trying to get him to buy a 1080ti on top of a monitor purchase he's apparently not buying yet? :D

As above, and he's after silky smooth gameplay so the G-Sync 165Hz 1440p is sound choice - *cough* for when he's in a position to buy (tomorrow Beady? :))
