New iPod??

Do any of the new iPods come with remotes anymore? I really find the in-line remote of my 2nd gen iPod useful.

Am I going to have to order one of the FM Remote things at £35 just to use my iPod Touch without digging into my pocket everytime? :(

The remote on the 5.5g one I have is an optional extra, and terrible. The older school ones had the extra little socket next to the headphone socket which worked nicely for the inline remotes but the newer ones require you to plug it into the main socket on the bottom. I've no idea why they changed from the old method, I used to use my remote all the time on my old iPod, but my new one I never use it.

Errm... any read the new posts on MacRumours?
Some people already got their iPod Touch!

And here I am still wondering if I should buy it (thinking there'll be some time for me to decide before they start shipping...!)

Damn - I'm in NY from monday just around the corner from the Apple store.

Going to be very tempting to pick up a Touch if they have any.

I hope you'll be able to pick one up:)
If I knew you better, I'll pass you the money to pick one up for me!

Why oh why do us in the UK get 1/3 exchange rate when the current exchange rate is £1 to US$2...

£245.50 delivered for the 16gb from the apple store, does anyone know if the touchscreen issues are simply a bad batch? I know usually american problems in general dont transpire over here plus from the comparison videos the ipod touch screen seems to produce blacks better than the iphone.

mine is still sat in its box - not liking what I am hearing around the patch ...

suspect sound quality (debatable)
laggy user interface (possibly improved with new firmware)
incompatability with some 3rd party equipment - eg car radios etc ...

I may return mine for the 20 quid apple charge and go and get a 5.5G one for same price tomorrow ...

Mark.

Is that the patch for the Classic you're referring to?

Really annoyed that they changed the database structure which messes up any linux use with the new range, hopefully someone will figure out a way round the new security hash values...

I've updated to 1.01 and I can't see any issues, not checked for sound quality degradation.

If enough people complain they'll release a patch soon enough :)

EDIT: The UI is definately snappier, although coverflow is a bit laggy.. but i'm sure it'll be sorted in a patch or two.

I'm so glad the Touch comes out at the end of the month as I go to Florida a few weeks after so I'll get a 16Gb for £70 cheaper than the UK price.

How'd you work that out? I reckon the saving will be about £30 (Assuming the use of the AppleUK discount voucher kicking about). Then think about the fact that you won't be able to return it which is a big issue considering there appears to be a "bad batch" with dodgy screens in the US. Then you've got the fact that you'll need to loose the packaging to bring it into the UK.

Suddenly that £30 saving doesn't feel so great ...

There's a £60 saving to be made (£210.80 inc Florida sales tax vs £269), less the £20 voucher if you use the UK store. Apple warranties are worldwide so no worries getting it fixed.

Not an fantastic saving however which is unusual for apple. I saved £300 on my MacBook Pro and around £100 on a 3G iPod buying from the US.
