New iPod??

The new 1.0.2 firmware fixed all my sluggish coverflow issues :D

Very happy!!

I've just bought a new nano and am waiting for it to arrive, where can i d/l the new firmware from if the latest version isn't on it? I checked the apple website but couldn't find it :)

Cheers (first time apple product owner)

When you plug it in and open itunes it'll notify you of an update for it! :)

From an OS X perspective,

you'll save the image, import to iPhoto, either sync with library with your touch (through iTunes) or make a album and sync that album. Once done, view the picture via your iod touch and you can use that image as wallpaper.

oh ok... So i cant just like, "right click" and save/set as or something similar?

No. You can either sync it with iPhoto, or you have to put it on another way.

It's one of my pet hates for the iPhone!

It's "only" a background image...
Least on my iPod Touch, I feel there is no real need for a background image when you only see it whilst trying to "slide to unlock" the player...

yeh but still, saving images to the touch to show people later would have been good, maybe it will be in an update.

Hi all, im considering purchasing an 80g Ipod Classic, i'll be upgrading from my trusty but ageing Iriver H320. I already use Itunes so I imagine it'l be even more of a breeze to use with an actual ipod.

What is the sound quality like on these new models? Ill be hooking it up to a sound system where i work, does the Ipod sound good when connected to a stereo amp/ speakers?

Sorry about the millions of questions, not famaliar with ipods but can you create play lists 'on-the-go?'? Cheers for any answers guys. :)

You can set it to auto-sync your library; it's then a case of plug in and your done.

This depends on the quality you rip at, and what system you have.. I have no complaints running it on a Audiolab 8000CD, 8000Q, 8000P, 8000P system with Audiovector Mi3 Avantgarde speakers :)

Yes, you just press the centre button and "add song to playlist". By default the songs you add go in to a "On the Go" playlist believe it or not!

These are also customisable when you sync back in to iTunes.. a case of drag n drop.

Cheers Eddie, I'll be ripping using EAC/Lame at VBR around 224kbps. I've looked around and i cant see an mp3 player that will provide me with the ipod's ease of use and functionality. Ill take a trip to the apple retailer at the albert dock in liverpool tommorow and hopefully come home with one :)

One word of warning..

If you're thinking of a Classic (or indeed Nano) make sure the display model has the 1.1.2 firmware installed.

Coverflow performance is terrible without it, and I wouldn't think you'd be impressed if you saw an unpatched model :)

Yeah, but he means if you look at one in the shop with the old firmware, it might put you off buying a classic.
That's exactly what I meant, yes.

Most people come back and say "coverflow sucks on the Classic" but the new firmware fixes it completely.

If you can view one with the firmware installed then it's going to make a world of difference to your decision :)
