New look England squad (vs Hungary 11/08/10)

I'm with G|mp on this one.

It's laughable to drop your best players because they had a poor World Cup.

Rooney is the best striker we have got.

Barry isn't international standard.

That's because you watch football week in week out, not like the fair weather England fans who seem to think they know how the team should look nowadays :/ and Italian ffs, who is only Italian when it suits.

I was going to pick the Italian squad to bits but I realised I really haven't got the time no matter how bored I am :/

Ronney is crap for England, same for Gerrard and Lampard.

--------------Hart-----------------

Johnson Jagielka Terry Cole

------Cattermole--- Barry-----

Milner--------------------------Johnson

------Defoe----Agbonlahor-----

That would be my team for the qualifiers.

Hart - Good, He's young and no doubt very talented, he needs first team football though if he's not getting it why should he be Englands number one? Concetrate on getting the number one at your own club. Foster wasn't good enough for Manchester United however you look at it, maybe he'll get "better" at Birmingham, but it's Birmingham.

Johnson - Awful defender, He was really poor at the World Cup and hasn't impressed me at all for England (Despite having some half decent games for Liverpool), He's there because we don't have a better right back. Richards? What the **** happened to him?

Cole - World Class left back, simple. Decent World Cup, came off the back of an injury and a good season. Who else is there? Bridge? ha.

Terry - He's a disaster waiting to happen on the international stage, I've always said this about him. England and Chelsea fans seem to think he's a great defender because he's making last ditch tackles ect ect, Great defenders read the game and don't need to make those last ditch tackles, I do understand it's good to have a defender who is willing to make those :p but still. That's what last ditch defending is. Terry is good at that. Rio, is a far superior defender when fit, Terry also suffers from a lack of pace and was turned far too easily at the World Cup.

Jags - Despite being from the other team in Sheffield, I think he's a good player, maybe not first choice. Cahill / Dawson would be in with a shout if Jags is.

Cattermole? - Eh? Have I missed something? He had a "decent" season. Rodwell has got to be in with a shout imo, Parker had a far better season then Cattermole and still isn't in your starting line up.

Barry - ha. I loved the "Garry Barry Role" ITV came up with. He's ****ing ****.

Milner - ha, Sorry but when Lennon is fit he plays. Milner is painfully over rated.

Johnson - Agree with you on him, he's a good young exciting player. should have been given the chance to do something at the World Cup, came off the back of a good season.

Defoe / Agbonlacrap - No. Rooney and someone else start up front when fit. Simple. Defoe has never really managed to do it for England, he's a good poacher and natural finisher. Aggy - last time I saw him he ran about a lot.

England really aren't blessed with World Class players, but to miss out their best striker for quite a while and easily most talented player Rooney is laughable.

/rant and I'm bored out of my mind.

SHeesh a lot of people talking rubbish, in general I agree with Gimp, its not about the youngsters/alternate players haven't played for England so you don't know, these players are simply better players than the ones Oxy is mostly talking about, in the league week in week out the guys Gimp is talking about are BETTER.

The fact that some haven't played for England doesn't mean they will suddenly be better for England than they are for their clubs.

People play worse at international levels in unpracticed teams that don't link up as well, Messi, Ronaldo, Lampard, Henry, Anelka, etc, etc, etc, etc.

The fact is these players are good players who played badly under a **** manager who has zero success at international level, and somewhat critically played under an Italian side that played EXACTLY like ENgland, no cohesion, no togetherness, no spirit, no quality, no tactics, nothing. Capello's only experience is of Italy crashing out embarassed with a squad of excellent players who could not pull it together and looked inept in the World Cup, he's now recreated that exact experience again and constantly says he doesn't know what to do, how to get in his players heads, how to get the playing better, why they aren't performing.

The guy should be gone, you don't want a manager failing so miserably, coming out and saying "i don't know why, I don't know how to fix it" and then make excuses.

He's still trying the "they were tired" excuse, despite the entire squad having played many less games than the majority of the Spanish, Brazil, German and other squads over the past THREE years. England don't need a winter break, they've had a 3 month long summer break Spain, Brazil, Italy, and many other teams haven't had for THREE YEARS. How can tiredness be an excuse, such rubbish.

He's now supposed to motivate these players even though he, and they all know he thinks they are WORSE players than the original squad.

However, Gimp is very wrong, they weren't superb in the qualifiers, EVERY SINGLE last issue in the world cup was apparent in all but a couple of the qualifiers, how do I know, was it hindsight, no, it was ruddy obvious and I pointed them out for 2 years and pointed out how and when they'd cost us, so did half the nation.

Barry, solid? Sorry Oxy but that statement lost every footballing argument there ever. Firstly he's never played DM in his career, again I'll say it, Barry, o'neill, the actual DM that is Petrov(or Sidwell) ALL constantly have to reiterate that Barry hasn't and doesn't play DM, he doesn't play DM for City, he can't play DM, he doesnt' know the position and he is truly shocking at it and he was by far the worst performer in the world cup. He constantly ran forwards, over commited and failed to notice and mark a single dangerous run into the box, he's ruddy awful defensively, which wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't playing as the key front man in our defence.

Cattermole isn't fantastic, and he's a bit of a thug, but he see's runs and tries to break the guys legs before he gets in the box and scores, thats a huge step up from the guy who doesn't even notice the danger. Parkers been fantastic in that role for 2 years, and there are several other options, including playing one of our many many defenders as a DM, not the best option in the world, but hugely better than playing Barry who has no business in the England squad.

Barry is awful defensively, and very very average going forwards these days, had a couple half decent years a while back but has been nothing more than average for a couple years now.

Stopping international players but allowing international managers is very hypocritical.
Eh. I used to be against it, but recently I've started to agree with you that managers of national teams should be from the countries they manage. But I think it should be up to FIFA to instigate that rule, not England. If we're allowed to hire foreign managers, I see no reason we should hamstring ourselves with (most likely) inferior domestic types, when we have the cash to recruit top notch outsiders.

It was our best qualifing performace ever is what I meant.

You have covered the other points well although I couldn't be arsed to read the wall of text I imagine you were agreeing with me.

I was on about Oxy the moron being Italian, nowt to do with Capello :D

I read it :/

Pretty much just saying what you said and expanding a bit on Cattermole.

I agree (well it's fact so I can't disagree) that it was our best qualifing. I don't think we player that good football at any point.

Which is pretty much exactly my point, we played like Man United in the qualifiers and whilst not being particulary attractive we got the job done and the points in the bag.

We got to the WC and turned into Leeds United all of a sudden.

I would rather us have turned up at the WC and played like Spain, nothing striking as such but hard work and getting the job done, hey it won them the WC ffs.

Yep.

Couldn't agree with you more G|mp.

Would be nice to have us play well in a friendly every once in a while :p
