What games will you be playing? ive got the bottom of the range 7300gt in my Macpro and it happily runs dual Dell 24¨ screens and I get a damn decent framerate when playing Eve-Online full screen on 1 of them.

I play FS-X, at 6x AA and 16xAF.

Im pretty sure it can't do it :)

Do you really think apple care in the slightest about that?

x1900xt is good enough for osx, for now.

If you are buying an apple for windows, why not just get a dell workstation or build your own?

Im going to uni next year, Im taking one computer. I want that to be a mac.

Quite simple really isn't it? And making a DX10 graphics card compatible with EFI hardly takes much time

Those are pretty stringent requirements in the first place! 16x AF, you're having a giraffe

If you want a gaming machine then buy a Mac Pro and boot in to Windows, because the iMac won't cut it.

Never said anything about an iMac lol, that was someone else ;)

Well, not 16xAF but whatever FS-X forces in game

Either way, a 20 month old graphics card is not what I want ;)

Fair enough, I think Apple missed the mark by not having something on par with the 8600GT but it's too late now :(

If the iMac had the better graphics I would have been swayed towards selling my MBP, but as it stands I'm keeping her until MW 2008.

it may not be a gaming machine but it is supposedly a high end workstation for graphics work, giving us a £20 card and charging £70 for dual is ridiculous

games are not the only 3D application out there

Have to say I agree with most. The graphics card on these iMacs is a huge let down. Had they been something decent, I might have considered getting one.

The iMac may not be a gaming machine, but as I've said before, Apple are having a push now for gaming titles. Do they honestly think every Apple gamer is gonna buy a MacPro?

Me thinks not.

I just find that the iMac is 2nd best to the MacPro (thats how it should be seen)

They have basically put macbook Pros with more 3d rendering power than a latest product line iMac.

There isn't even an upgrade option and thats the thing.

Apple have made a terrible mistake with this.

Just say gaming is what stops people buying a mac from a PC. Apple should be first to think about this given that they have signed deals with EA for Mac titles.
I fail to see logic in this move as playing games on a laptop is uncomfortable and as someone already said. Fork out for a MacPro? I doubt that

Thats my only concern with the iMac. It would become my only computer really so games could be an issue.

Put it this way, I was holding onto my balls when I sold my top'end PC to buy the first Intel iMac!...That was a 256MB ATI Radeon X1600.

Like I said, I made the switch to use this computer as my sole option.

I played EVER game at very decent settings, no word of a lie. Any game I liked (CSS, DODS & BF2).

I'm not overly pleased with this new GFX, but again its far better than the previous card, so as of tomorrow (Friday) I'm on the huntout for the 24" model.

I've got the same games, plus some new ones waiting to be installed.

One question ask though, is until is more stable, do we actually bother with Vista or stick to XP? If were using that side for gaming? I might as well stick a XP Pro disc in.

To answer, dont panic believe me! Next month another card or two will be out, but for the moment its got the current games handled.

:)

If it's just for games, XP has the slight advantage on performance currently due to its mature drivers et al. With a bit of tweaking here and there XP can be made to be quite slim and unobtrusive - perfect if it's just being used for some games and not as a full-time OS.

I agree, the 2600pro or (god forbid) the 2400xt is a pathetic card, a £30 graphics card in a £800 computer is unbeliveable, as is a £50 one in a £950+ computer. The 2400xt struggles to achieve even 15fps on games as old as farcry on high settings @ 1280x1024, at the native res of the imac that spells disaster. Though, tbh ea games aren't much to look forward to anyway. :p

:D If that is true, oh dear.

Apple will eventually learn. They've got their digital lifestyle gig wrapped up, but seem to be quite out of touch on gaming. Their latest GPUs would all but confirm that.

An iMac with a cracking graphics card would be bought by a hell of a lot of people (in my opinion) - I guess the hardware bills were stacking up and they've bowed out to making it cheaper, so they could say it's cheaper.

I'm starting to think they'd consider a standalone Mac for the near future.

Something that's upgradeable, but lacks the processing power to rival the MacPro. Also known as a "headless iMac" on the rumor sites.

It would be great if they did, and I can certainly see it with the EA & ID deals for games, but I doubt they'd release it soon as the new iMac would lose some of it's thunder.
