best idea really is to get an eternal drive or two

if you use windows too it just makes more sence to store all files on an external fat 32 drive, that way you can access all your files from both mac and windows...

last time i looked mac drive didnt work on with EFI on the macbook and vista only can instal on ntfs... which is a really issue with the whole Vista and OSX on one system

FAT32 doesnt allow files over 4gb :( . HD content obviously smashes through this! Think i will be running vista in parallels anyway, which will understand whats going on and MacOS will read from NTFS just not write to.

yeah that 4gb limit is totally crap

we need a solution NOW not later!! i can only hope that leopard has NTFS support in it

Justin, have you managed to get your MBP working in clamshell mode without being powered from the mains? I'm not sure if it's a setting or a limitation of the hardware, but I haven't yet got this to work - it just goes to sleep with the monitor plugged in when I remove the power cable, oddly.

Looking like a nice machine after a couple of nights of usage. Civ 4 was a bit dodgily slow when I tried it earlier, unfortunately - I may need to have a bash with it running under Boot Camp too and see if it's any smoother. I'd have thought the 8600M GT would manage it easily :)

I have the older gen MBP and it seems that it only supports clamshell mode when powered into the mains. Hope this helps.

Can i just ask what kind of temps your getting on the MBP Justin?

Lots of reports of poorly applied thermal paste making temps of up to 75c!

Sure,

Definitely, you wont regret it :)

Well i ended up getting one!

Went down to the southampton store (would you believe it narrowly missed two nasty motorway accidents on the way!!)

Had a mess about with it in the store (packed full of chavvy kids ******* about with iSight), liked the build of it and the weight was less than i expected. Had a brief chat about parallels/bootcamp etc. and decided to whack it on the overdraft now and pay it off later :p.

Went for the 15.4" 2.2ghz with a glossy screen, just messing about with it now. Mac OS X is WEIRD!

Bootcamp doing its thing as we speak :p.

Will reply with impressions etc. once i've used it for a day or two.

Whats the glossy screen like? Im debating whether to go for the glossy or matte screen, hoping to check them both out when i get to the apple store in a few days time.

I have always said go glossy... I went it for a change and never looked back :)

Yeah i compared them side by side in the store, and tbh the matte impressed me (much brighter and better contrast than any other matte i'd seen) but still stumped for the glossy, just that bit sharper.

Is there a decent widget for temperatures? Justin where did you get that above screengrab from?
