New NUC, HD5000, 4x USB 3.0, infrared sensor

Omar, did you notice that the part of the heatsink that touches the PCH is stepped? I left the thermal pad on as otherwise the PCH and the heatsink won't make contact....

I can't say that I noticed at the time. Temps seem fine at the moment so it seems to be making sufficient contact. When you say PCH, which particular piece of the die is that?

The PCH is the South Bridge part of the chipset, which is the smaller die of the two on the CPU package. Probably doesn't even need cooling really, as it uses very little power.

Mine spent a over 24hrs transcoding my full size bluray rips with Handbrake, was a good soak test. Temps never exceeded 75C and it didn't miss a beat.

Omar:

Very nice kit and well worth the upgrade, did you manage to get a p/s that has less buzz in the end ?

I may still go intel nuc but I figured I can spend a good £600ish on the intel nuc with a decent ssd/ram/case or £200-300 more and just get back into gaming so went that route:)

I haven't noticed any buzzing now apart from when I had the Abel case open to resolve some boot issues (needed to re-seat the RAM), and that buzzing was coming from the board itself but I can't hear it when the case is closed up.

these look great for power saving...
They are absolutely incredible. My Haswell i5 NUC running Openelec (a cut-down Linux distribution with XBMC built-in) consumes 11 Watts, and with the screen suspended (basically the TV goes black) it consumes 6 Watts!

Really do like this, looks similar size to the intel nuc, has dedicated mic input and headphone, IR?, SD reader.... I have a feeling its using the 10watt quad celeron 2.4ghz cpu. Oh and most important part of it...... 100% fanless design :)

Video says it will be inbetween 250-350 Euros, unsure if it includes ram/hdd and full cpu specs this is just a teaser its due this summer(H1 2014).

That Zotac is stunning. And just as I bought my Haswell NUC, although I am extremely happy with it, and the Zotac still hasn't been released.

Yup looks very nice and should cool very well with that honey comb design, I redited the post they say its due H1 2014, so they got should be with us in less then 3 months time.

I think its using the first gen baytrails maybe 2.4ghz (quad) celerons which increase to 2.67ghz quad. Will be very interesting to see how the celeron quad 2.67ghz compares with the intel haswell nuc in performance and multitasking and wattage:)

I take it that zotac would easily handle blue rays, Netflix super 3d hd and such like?

If so I'm sold.

That is a good question, one I assumed it should be fine... while it does not say for 100% what baytrail cpu it is, its got to be either the dual celeron 2.6ghz or quad 2.4ghz, am hoping on the latter since both under 10watts.

The £99 baytrail nuc with the 2.4ghz dual core (not quad) is doing 1080p well however they mentioned you can't do much multi-tasking...

I guess if it was the quad it would have no issue, time will tell what cpu it is.

I assume the Zotac is along the lines of Atom or very low-end Celeron?

Kinda like the new Atoms really:

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013...-serious-with-the-new-bay-trail-architecture/

Intel has quite a few of them about now and different variants of them running in dual and quad and some octocores (servers) around 2.4ghz-2.6ghz.

Some have had features stripped or reduced... but for the main part they are intels new SoC cpus designed for better performance over the atoms and also passive and less energy.

Question for Intel haswell nuc owners

How would you describe your multi-tasking experience with that core i5 cpu, lets say if you have 7 websites running and listening to mp3s and streaming 1080p video ?

Any sluggish or stuttering during your multitasking experience ?
