Well I think its time for me to look for a new nursery for my 2 lil uns, (aged 3 and 18 months) went in to pick them up friday only to be scolded by the manager for teaching our daughter offensive nursery rhymes,

i was quite taken aback by this and enquired as to what heinous words she was saying,

oh the daft bint replied she was singing baa baa black sheep.

seemingly this is now deemed offensive and must be replaced with baa baa wooly sheep. It wouldn't be so bad but its a private nursery and we pay just over a grand a month for their services. I was gobsmacked and kept expecting Jeremy Beadly to jump out. I mean WTF is this country coming to when traditional nursery rhymes are being changed for political correctness

I recall posting about the PCness of nurseries about 12 months ago.
Wait till they get to school ;)

Quite a few people with young children have told me baa baa black sheep is no longer alowed. Kind of sad things have to be so pc :(

Its the same in my kids school, except they teach them Baa Baa White Sheep
and its never racism when its aimed at white is it.

this is why posh schools use projectors instead of blackboards and whiteboards.

Shocking TBH.
Since when has using the word black being a racist thing?

I really do fail to see how using a descriptive colour of something without any racial connotation is about being PC at all.

So can I no longer order a vehicle in black then? Pretty sure my motorbike is described as being black on the V5. Damn racist DVLA.

just tell them its far more ecologically sound to spin black wool for dark clothes rather than dying white wool dark colours. Therefore there is a place for black sheep.
Seriously are there negative conotations in that nursery ryhme??

That rhyme has been 'banned' for a long time; in addition to a long list of things nursery nurses cannot say or sing to a child - labelling them naughty for instance is a huge no-no. "Hate the sin, not the sinner" and all that.

My fiancee is a nursery nurse, but thankfully it is well run by sensible, normal people, but there are plenty of things they still shouldn't say or do.

/edit: 7 years ago almost it was decided it was stupid to ban it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/600470.stm

But it continues: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-2073043,00.html
