I would be sad to see the old layout go, obviously its been around for years, but comparing it to other etailers, i know it like the back of my hand, the pictures and descriptions are well laid out and easy to read.

ooooo just got a tiny glimpse of the new layout, clicked the 7950 banner and it took me to the page, with the new menu then it timed out and i cant load it again

Simple, you just keep the old site running and place the dev one in a /dev directory and test it.

Or you just stage it internally to your organisation and test it that way. Unfortunately, you're limited by numbers for an internal test. Throw a forum full of inquisitive people, plus all those who use the shop and not the forum, and you get rather a large number of people hitting the site together.
